“I’m Richard Glee with Prestige Automotives of Georgia. I have a delivery for Mr. Liam Grimes.”

“What kind of delivery?” I questioned.

I hadn’t ordered anything. Even if I did, my packages were usually dropped off. The delivery drivers could have been in the Olympics with how fast they sprinted away from the door after dropping off a package. I was almost certain that some of them just tossed it out of the window and kept rolling.

“I have a card somewhere. Let me see,” he said, patting his pockets.

I was already on high alert with two strange men standing out in my parents’ driveway. Now, he was patting his pockets looking for something. Dude was about two seconds fromgetting his wig split when he pulled out that little envelope. He didn’t even know that he’d saved his own life.

“Here we are,” he said, extending the card to me.

I kept my eyes on him as I opened the tiny envelope. The words on the card confused me for a beat.

“What’s today’s date?” I asked him.

“It’s the seventeenth,” he confirmed.

“Well, I’ll be damned,” I mumbled.

Happy birthday, Lee Lee! Since you hate driving my pink one, I decided to get you a truck that matches your fly.

Divine had bought me a fucking truck. I didn’t know what stunned me more. The fact that Divine had sent me a matte black G-Wagon for my birthday or the fact that I didn’t even realize my birthday was in two days.

With so much going on, I barely knew what day it was. Not only that, but I hadn’t really celebrated my birthday in years. Even if I didn’t normally do anything for it, I still usually acknowledged the passing of time. I was so out of it that I didn’t know if I was coming or going. I knew one thing, though. I couldn’t accept a car from Divine.

“I can’t take this.”

“Mr. Grimes, we can’t return it. We have strict instructions to leave it with you no matter what,” the other guy finally spoke up.

“I’m sure you do.” I shook my head.

Instead of continuing a pointless conversation, I dashed toward the house.

“The key fob is on the seat!” one of them yelled.

I ignored his comment as I snatched the front door open and bounded up the stairs. I didn’t need that information. I’d just told him I wasn’t accepting the car. I just needed Divine to get in touch with whoever she needed to talk to so they could take it the fuck back.

By the time I made it to the top of the stairs my legs were on fire. I needed to add stairs to my workout routine in a bad way. When I made it to my bedroom, I headed over to the nightstand and snatched the top drawer open.

My phone was still exactly where I’d left it the first night I got here. Picking it up, I plopped down on the bed and powered it on. It took way too long for the phone to finish turning on. I hopped up off the bed and stalked over to the window. The second car that had been in the driveway was nowhere in sight.

Divine was out of her mind. That had to be it. What the hell made her buy me a truck? She had no business buying me a truck or anything else for that matter. Don’t even get me started on the price. This was crazy. Divine was crazy.

I don’t even remember ever discussing my birthday with her. I’m pretty sure she’d never asked. It wasn’t something that I would have casually mentioned. I worked on my last birthday. I spent the whole day with her, and she had no idea. That was the way I liked it. Who wanted to celebrate the day all their problems started? A woman…that was who.

When my phone was finally on, notifications flooded in like crazy. There were so many missed calls and text messages from the past week that I had to sit down and give my phone a minute to catch up. From what I could tell, the majority of the missed calls and texts were from Divine. One of the calls had been from Syre. He was probably trying to check in to see when I would be returning to my post.

At this point, I wasn’t even sure if I would return. I wasn’t joking when I said I wasn’t going to be able to stand around and watch Divine be with another man. She had me fucked up if she thought buying me a car would change my mind. I tapped my screen and selected Divine’s name from the list of missed calls. Once the phone started ringing, I put it to my ear. It rang three times before the voicemail picked up.

“I know this heifer didn’t send me to voicemail,” I mumbled, ending the call.

I didn’t hesitate to call right back. This time, she picked up on the first ring.

“Liam, let me call you right back,” Divine rushed.

“No need. Send someone to get this truck,” I ordered.
