The only thing that gave me solace was the thought of my cum soaking Divine’s panties as she pretended to be interested in this clown she was being forced to entertain. She was mine. I didn’t have to keep saying that to make it true. It was already so.

She must have felt me watching her because Divine glanced over at me and smiled. Her gesture didn’t go unnoticed. Her suitor followed her eyes to me and made his best attempt to look intimidating when our eyes met.

I didn’t change my expression as I considered ending their fucking charade on the spot. I had to think with a cool head, though. Flying off the handle wouldn’t be good for anyone. I had to be strategic.

If Bishop thought this arrangement was the best decision, I respected his choices enough to know that it was the only way. I also knew enough about their family to know that they were working on something. I just had to find out what that something was.

It took a miracle and a lot of fucking patience to get through Divine’s first date as she called it. I don’t know about the guys, but this shit was about to turn my hair gray.

“All right, big guy. I’ll see you Friday, I guess,” Zane said, grinning at me like the bitch he was as he approached.

“I guess you will.”

“You don’t get any days off?” he quizzed with a grimace.

“That’s none of your concern. As long as those checks keep clearing, I’ll keep showing up.”

“I hear that, but once Divine and I make things official, I’m sure she won’t need you.”

“We’ll see about that.”

I was trying to keep my composure, but this asshole was making it hard. I had said all that shit about Divine behaving herself when I was less than three seconds from snapping Whitmore’s neck.

“I suggest you update your résumé, playboy. I’m not cutting any checks for another man to take care of my woman, and I don’t need any help from her family to take care of her. So, I don’t think those checks will be clearing much longer.”

“Even if they don’t clear, Divine knows I got her whenever she needs me,” I stated.

“Yeah, she won’t be needing that either.”

The stool I had been sitting on scratched the floor as I jumped up to get in his face. Right on cue, Divine stepped between us.

“You ready, Zane?” she asked him.

“Ready for what?” I asked, turning my attention to her.

“I’m just walking him out. You don’t have to come,” Divine assured me.

“Yeah, I’m sure she can walk five feet without her pit bull on her heels.”

Since I knew I was likely to say something crazy as hell if I opened my mouth again, I decided not to say anything. If Bishop and the gang didn’t hurry up and figure something out, I was going to have to take his ass out to the hog pin.

I stood to get myself together to leave, because for one, I didn’t want to hear about Divine’s date. She told me everything, so I knew she was going to want to tell me all about it. I wasn’t in the mood to talk about her date. I needed to get in a workout to help me de-stress. After I finally saw Whitmore’s car pull off, I walked outside, meeting Divine on the sidewalk.

“If your boy don’t learn how to watch his mouth, I’m going to end up sending him to the upper room.”

“I’m sorry about him, Lee. I’ll talk to him.”

“You don’t have to apologize for or talk to another grown ass man about me. Don’t worry. I’m going to stop him.”

“You headed out?” she asked.

“Yeah. I gotta run.”

“Aw, I was hoping you were going to come to the house. I need to spend time with someone whose company I don’t have to pretend to enjoy.”

“Well, I’m sure Candice can’t wait to hear all about your hot date.”

“Are we good, Liam?” Divine asked me, knitting her brows.
