“Is that how you talk to all your attorneys?”
“Only the ones I wanna fuck.”
My jaw locked, but I said nothing.
He didn’t wait.
Under the table, his hand found my thigh—slow, warm, and deliberate. A firm squeeze that sent a current straight up my spine.
I froze.
“You can be mad,” he said, voice smooth as sin. “But I see this shit for what it is… You using yo daddy as a way to keep every nigga at a distance. ‘Cause in yo mind that’s how you stay in control—keep the heartbreak away.”
He leaned closer.
“But you want somebody to try you… don’t you?”
My breathing hitched.
His voice dipped low… dark… full of that arrogant, reckless charm that made my stomach flip like I was already in too deep.
“You need that, huh.” His grin stretched lazy across his face, like he knew exactly what he was doing to me. “You want me to put that dick in you… let you feel what you been missing all this time.”
I should’ve said something. Should’ve pushed his hand away. Checked him. Read him for filth like I rehearsed in my head a hundred times.
But my body…
Didn’t move.
I stayed there. Still. Wanting.
“You act like you in control, Zoe…” he whispered, mouth brushing close enough for me to taste the promise in his words. “But you already halfway mine.”
Then he kissed me.
No warning. No permission.
Just heat. Pure, unfiltered, toe-curling heat.
Like the first time… right there in my office… like he was determined to keep rewriting the rules I swore I lived by.
And the worst part?
I kissed him back.
Not hesitant. Not unsure.
I leaned in like I’d been waiting… like I wanted him to come take me apart. My hand found his jaw, fingers curling likemuscle memory, like I’d done this a thousand times in another life.
For a second—just a split second—I forgot about Hartman Towers… forgot about professionalism… forgot about every carefully constructed line I’d drawn between me and him.
His mouth was slow. Confident.
Like he was home… and I was the guest he was showing around.
Which was technically true… since this was only our second real kiss.
When he finally pulled back, I was breathless.
