He sits up, propping himself on one elbow, turning my head to face him. “Mariana. Look at me, listen to me. I’ve married you, more than that, I’ve claimed you. You are mine. Should you fail to get residency, should you be deported, you will not be on your own. Do you understand me? I will come with you. Wherever you go.”
My brow furrows, unable to understand what he’s telling me. “You’d leave your brothers? The Satan’s Devils? All that you love?”
“I love you, Mariana.” He raises my hand wearing his ring and kisses it. “You and me against the world.” He’s so intense, it’s not hard to believe him. His dark eyes shine down as he makes me one more promise. “You’re not alone, Mariana. You’ll never be alone again.”
Chapter 39
Mouse
I’d made promises in the dead of the night and I meant every one of them. At first it had been a sexual attraction, then the more I learned about the life Mariana had to live, how she coped with it, how she looked after her brother, even though we were parted, my respect, my admiration for her had grown. Slowly turning into a deeper emotion, I’d spoken the truth, I’d spent far too much time unable to see her, I never want to be parted from her again.
She’s still sleeping, I dredge through the facts in my head, joining dots, analysing data, thinking of all the things that can be done. She’s lived with the fear of deportation all her life. Now there’s a real threat to her person, her father is still on the loose, and he’s intent on killing her and kidnapping Drew. Surely no judge would send her back to Colombia? But if they did, she wouldn’t be going alone.
I knew she’d fit in my arms, and making love to her? That had exceeded my expectations. Maybe knowing I was the first man to touch her so intimately, but my possessive, protective instincts had been roused. She’s mine.Forever.
She starts to stir, I watch her as she comes to, a yawn, her legs stretching out, her feet finding mine. A little startled expression as she remembers she’s in my bed, waking up with a man for the first time.
“Good mornin’.” I’m smiling, she’s so adorable half asleep.
When I hold out my arms she comes into them, waking up fast when my morning wood meets the softness of her belly.
“Ignore it,” I say softly. “After last night, you’ll be too sore.”
She grins cheekily, and her hand moves down, and touches my cock, her tiny hand trying to surround it. I groan, my head going back. As she squeezes gently, I can’t resist, covering her fingers with my own, showing her the pressure and rhythm I like, my other hand reaching between us and rubbing her clit.
Now it’s her turn to moan.
Fuck, it feels good, her jerking me off, her face starting to contort with her own pleasure. I’m close, so’s she…
The door’s flung open. “Mouse…” Drew’s excited exclamation comes to an abrupt halt. Luckily the sheet’s covering both of us, but our closeness, our expressions must give us away.
“Er, I’ll come back later.” He backs out of the door.
My now limp dick falls out of her hand, Mariana moves to the other side of the bed. I look at her, she at me, then suddenly we both laugh.
“I’m fuckin’ lockin’ the door next time,” I growl.
“Do you think we’ve damaged him for life?” she asks, quite seriously.
Hell no. I don’t tell her, but he’s probably seen far worse in the clubhouse. I settle for, “Nah, he just didn’t expect to walk in on us like that. Poor kid’s probably embarrassed.”
“He’s embarrassed?” Her eyes open wide. “I’m mortified.”
I kiss her, then slide my legs over the bed. “I’ll have a quick shower, then get dressed, go see what he wants.”
We end up showering together. Which means it’s an hour or more before we’re ready to go down to the clubhouse. Turns out Drew didn’t want us for anything life or death. The room’s abuzz with the news Horse is making his annual trip to the States and will be arriving next week, and Blade’s suggested the talented airbrush artist would paint a design on the hood ofDrew’s car. I raise my eyebrows and shake my head in Blade’s direction when Drew tells me. Unapologetically he grins and shrugs. Drew’s car’s only one step away from the scrap heap as far as I’m concerned. But boys will be boys, and who am I to censure him for wanting to customise it? I ride a Harley with all manner of shit on it myself.
Sophie’s in her element, another British person to speak to. Horse has been coming here for years, one time he turned up with her in tow as she needed protection. She stayed when she met Wraith, and married our VP.Hmm.They must have been through the green card shit. Maybe they’d know a thing or two and could give us some advice.
As brothers and old ladies mill around, and Mariana’s sitting with Drew trying to tell him a skull on his car wouldn’t be appropriate, I’m pleased to see how she seems to be settling in here. When I see Sophie join them, I smile. Mariana’s probably never had friends before, she’d always been afraid to let anyone in.
Over the next couple of weeks, life’s great. Mariana really starts coming out of her shell, proving to be more adventurous than I expected both in and out of bed. I fall a little bit more in love with her every day, and become even more committed to somehow giving her the peace of mind that she can relax and make her home here. One thing bothers me, she adores the babies in the clubhouse, always wanting a cuddle, and proving a help, even offering to change diapers. She’d make such a great mom. That conversation the first morning plays on my mind. She’s sacrificing what she wants for all the right reasons, but it kills me she has to.
“Sam said you’d be here.” Mariana walks across the rough ground. Her leg is now strong enough to move without crutches as long as she favours it and doesn’t overdo it.
I pause, my hand in mid-air, then beckon her to me. Dutifully she raises her face, and I lean down to kiss her.
“Jeez, you two lovebirds.” Blade’s shielding his eyes.
