“Nothing.” He looks past me and the blonde from the other night struts toward us.
Chapter eight
Solo
“Enjoy your lunch,” I mutter to Vada as I leave my seat and my food to see what the fuck Angel is doing here.
“Hey, lover.” She kisses my cheek in greeting.
“What are you doing here? Told you I don’t like you just popping in without calling first.”
“Gee. Hello to you too. What’s the big deal? It’s not like you’re busy. I was going to see if we could get lunch at the Dairy Bar, but I see you’ve already got that covered.” She stares past me at Vada who has her back to us. Though I’m sure she’s listening.
“Let me guess. Your sister told you a pretty redhead picked up my food so thought you’d bring your ass over here to be nosy and try to catch me up in some shit.”
“Why are you eating with her instead of me?”
“If you gotta know we’re in the middle of a business lunch.”
She snorts. “Yeah. Okay. Sure.”
“Don’t start your shit. I’m not in the mood for it. You know I’ve got a lot going on. Already explained this to you.”
“Looks like to me you’re real busy.”
“Told you if you started this shit again, I’d be done.”
“Maybe I should go.”
“That’s a good idea.”
“Wow, Solo. You don’t get to say when we’re done. I say and guess what you’re not done with me, I’m done with you. How about that. You can’t just string me along while you’re here doing who knows what with every slut who comes through the door.”
“You’re acting like a child, Angel. And you don’t know Vada.”
“Like you do. She just shows up and you move her right into my place.”
“And what place would that be?”
“My dad offered to buy the business so we could run it together.”
“I don’t want your daddy’s money.”
“That’s not fair.”
“I don’t give a fuck. Now get gone. Don’t bring your ass around me no more. Sick of this shit. Your cunt isn’t worth the trouble.”
“You’ll be sorry.” She flips me off with both middle fingers then stomps out the door.
I plop back down in my seat and resume eating. Vada is quiet and refuses to meet my gaze. “What? No smartass remark for me?”
“I don’t think you need me piling on you right now? Are you okay? That was brutal.”
“Bet you think I’m the asshole here.”
“I don’t know you well enough to make that call. Though you were both in the wrong.”
“Bullshit has been coming on for a long time. Not sure what I was thinking.”
