Chapter 25

Isla

My Tapas Night with Myles was on a Tuesday. I shouldn't have been surprised but I still was when the next day, Sarah breezed through the door. She had told me Wednesdays were her day off. She wasn't in her uniform but still looked like she had stepped out of a magazine.

In a bright green jumpsuit, a colorful scarf tied around her hair like a headband and giant white sunglasses she made quite a vision walking in. She saw me at the register and a large smile graced her face as she walked over. She leaned over to kiss me on the cheek, startling me into action.

"Look at this place! It's chic as fuck, I love it. Okay so I brought the magazines, you got some time to sit with me, or do I have to take these quizzes all on my lonesome?" She fake pouted before getting distracted by the display case. She ran over and put two hands against the glass, reminding me of a kid at a candy store.

"Holy shit I think I just came. What the fuck does that say? White chocolate with raspberry filling?"

"And buttercream frosting." I added, helpfully.

"Can I get one of everything?" She asked and my eyes must have widened dramatically because she started laughing.

"Kidding, but let me try the white chocolate, the carrot cake, one of those double chocolate chip cookies and surprise me with a fourth one. I like variety."

"Sounds good, do you want coffee with that?"

"Could I get a latte?" She asked, a hopeful expression on her face.

"Of course." I laughed. "Let me get that together then I'll come sit with you. Grab the table in the corner and we can shove another table next to it if we need room."

"You're an angel. Call me when it's ready, I'll help carry everything over. How much do I owe you?" She asked, taking out a large wallet from her purse.

"No, no it's on me. You brought the magazines, it's the least I can do." I smiled at her while she gave me a squinty look.

"Cheap shot but I'll take it. Now hurry up I've got to grill you about what's going on with you and boss man before the friendship bracelet portion."

I must have blushed bright red because she laughed before heading over to the table. I rushed to get our coffees ready then put a variety of cakes, cookies and brownies on a tray. Sarah saw me return to the front of the shop and walked over to the counter, taking the tray and leaving just the coffees for me to carry over.

By the time I got settled at the table Sarah had already dug into one of the cake slices and was quickly moving on to something else. She let out a loud moan drawing the attention of a few of the customers. I laughed and sipped my coffee before reaching for a cookie. I had just started chewing when Sarah aimed her fork at me, a serious expression on her face.

"Okay, let's skip the pleasantries. Before I ask you what your intentions are with our beloved Boss Bennett, what's the deal with the slimy blonde guy and his brunette hussy?"

I choked on my next bite, once again surprised but also not surprised at Sarah's ability to get right to the point. I coveredmy mouth to try and finish chewing without spraying crumbs all over the place. I took a sip of my coffee, mentally working out how to phrase my answer, then instantly dismissing that idea.

I decided to just tell Sarah everything, no glossing over it or downplaying what a fucking shit show it's been. She made the appropriate sounds when the story demanded it but otherwise kept quiet as I word vomited the entire sordid tale out to her.

"So now, Jonathan being the asshole that he is, won't just grant me the divorce and is denying that he cheated. AND, to make it even more infuriating, apparently because I didn't stay long enough to film him literally sticking his dick in my cousin, my personal evidence wasn't enough!" I hissed out.

"That piece of shit. Always knew I hated lawyers, hated that guy on sight." Sarah replied, her brow furrowed.

"Wait so you remember him?" I asked, somehow surprised.

"Yeah, hon. When you were at the hotel the other day doing the tasting with Myles, I went to visit Sully to try and pump him for some info. He had the pictures on his desk, and I couldn't help but look. I recognized them, they always checked in as husband and wife." She looked at me with empathy.

"Sully didn't tell me anything though, just that you were a good woman and they were helping you out. When I told him we were now friends, he warned me not to get you into trouble." I laughed.

"So where does Myles fit into this equation?" She asked me, raising her perfectly manicured eyebrow as she took a dainty sip of her coffee.

"Oh, well he went to college with my cousin Wes. Wes asked him about getting access to the security footage. Myles has been so incredibly helpful. He's gone above and beyond helpful honestly." Heat rose in my cheeks.

"I just bet he has. So that explains your surveillance day but that doesn't explain your little date at the hotel for the tasting with Massimo, which I'm jealous of, you lucky bitch. Anyway, where was I? Oh, that doesn't explain Myles' wild behavior recently. He's got his head in the clouds but more noticeably he deviated from his schedule - which is UNHEARD of - so he could bring the tasting dishes to you. So, I ask again, where does Myles fit in?"

"I don't know. Honestly, he's been amazing. I've never met anyone like him. It feels so comfortable, natural when we're together as if we've known each other for years. At the same time, I feel like I'm constantly making a fool out of myself in front of him. Jesus, listen to me I sound like a teenager. It doesn't matter how I feel or how he makes me feel, there's not much I can do until my divorce is finalized. I have to focus on that first."

"Why?" Sarah asked. I blinked at her questioningly.
