“I doubt that Harrison is giving up on you. But if he decided to not go further in this relationship, you’ll survive it and even learn from it. You messed up. It’s okay, you’re smart not to repeat the same mistake twice.”
This is what I fear the most. I already learned my lesson and I’m not sure I’ll find someone like Harrison ever again. He’s a rare gem and I threw him away.
I stand up from the kitchen counter, hug Harper, grab my phone and keys and walk out of the apartment.
“Go get your man!” she shouts after me and I smile.
I don’t go get my man, but I do drive to the only person I know who will give him a message for me. When I open the door to his office, Aaron is surprised to see me but the smile never leaves his face. He’s come a long way since being called ‘the Butcher’ here in Hollywood.
“Sienna, what a surprise!” He seems genuinely happy to see me, standing up and reaching out to shake my hand. His grip is firm but not imposing. I like the person he’s become in the last few years.
“Sorry. I didn’t want to show up without an appointment, but I don’t know where else to go.”
He frowns and sits down in his chair, beckoning me to do the same in the one in front of his desk. I accept his invitation because I’m so nervous I’ll start to fidget if I stay standing up.
“Is everything okay?” He seems worried.
I look down for a moment before having the courage to look him in the eyes.
“Yes and no. I think Harrison blocked me from his phone because I can’t contact him. I’m here to ask you to give him a message on my behalf, if it’s not much trouble for you. I get it if you don’t want to be mixed up in these things,” I ramble nervously.
He smiles and shakes his head. My words die in my mouth and I start to think I’ve made a terrible mistake coming here.
“He didn’t block you on his phone. He has it turned off,” he says, with an amusement in his words I can’t understand.
“I’m an adult, I can handle the truth, Aaron.” Mostly. “You don’t need to sugarcoat things.”
He shakes his head, chuckling. “I’m not joking. His phone died and he forgot to turn it on.”
I raise my eyebrows, calling out his bullshit. “For one week straight?”
“I swear! Leonard and I went to his place to check if he was still alive. We were worried too.” He seems honest and I don’t know if I’m more surprised or worried.
“Is he okay?” I can hear the urgency in my voice.
“He’s perfectly fine. A bit obsessed with something but nothing bad.”
“Oh. So, he’s not avoiding me?” I’m confused now.
He smiles. “No, he is not. Come with me.”
“Where are we going?”
“I’m driving you to his house. I don’t know if he’ll open the door.”
“So, we’re breaking in?” Now I’m a bit concerned.
He chuckles. “I have the keys.”
“Oh. I have my car here.”
“So, you’ll drive. I’ll ask my driver to come to pick me up.” Of course, he has a driver!
One hour and countless questions from me about Harrison’s obsession later, we are driving through Harrison’s gates and parking in front of his door. Obviously, Aaron didn’t tell me anything about what Harrison is doing, saying that it’s a surprise.
I hate surprises.
When I walk through the door my heart thunders in my chest. I don’t know what I expect to find and this makes me nervous enough to want to run inside and run back home in equal measure.
