Darius nodded. “I’ll take care of it.”

He disappeared into a mist, blending in with the night.

“That’s a talent that could come in handy. I’m a little envious. I can travel through shadows, but I can’t become the mist,” Seraphina said.

“It’s effective. Let’s go back to our tents. Darius will find the person and make sure they don’t return to Malakar.”

He gently touched her arm and she gasped as the comforting warmth conflicted with the cold fear.

“You’re not alone in this.”

She nodded and they walked back to their tents. Every bone in her body ached from the exhaustion. Her muscles were tense like tight coils. Her chest hurt as she tried to draw in a breath.

Finally, the darkness was released. She felt it melt away. Darius appeared in front of Dain’s tent. She joined them.

Seraphina spotted some blood on his arm. “Are you hurt?”

“No. He won’t be reporting back to Malakar, and he won’t be found,” Darius said simply, and he turned to his tent.

“Thank you, Darius,” Seraphina said softly, so as not to disturb the others.

He hesitated and turned around. “You’re welcome, Oracle.”

“Malakar won’t stop hunting for me. Perhaps I should leave,” Seraphina said, although that was the last thing in the world she wanted to do. Her soul screamed that she wanted to stay with him.

“No. You’re one of us now. We’ll protect you,” Dain said fiercely.

Seraphina needed so much to step into his arms and lay her head on his chest. She wanted to hear his heartbeat as he held her close. She licked her lips and ached for him to kiss her.

“I know that you know about the curse. Any dragon shifter who dares to love me will go mad. But the prophecy isn’t complete.”

She looked into his stormy blue eyes and moaned in the back of her throat. He gently touched her face and lowered his head, his lips consuming hers as though he was starving.

Her heart thundered and a searing heat exploded inside of her. He tasted like a cool stormy morning and mint. Dain wrapped his arms tightly around her, pulling her close to him.

A wet heat flooded between her legs, and she wanted more than anything to be one with him—to feel him inside of her. Her fingers entwined with his curly blond hair and kneaded his muscular back, feeling the warmth of his skin under the palm of her hand.

Thunder boomed and lightning flashed in her soul. The kiss deepened, and the fires inside of her came alive as a raw consuming need for him overwhelmed her.

Dain’s hands slowly moved down to her waist, and he pulled her tightly against him. She gasped as he explored her curves through her tunic.

Seraphina arched against him, craving more of his touch, moaning against his lips as his tongue explored her mouth.

She whimpered when he cupped her breast. His thumb brushed across her nipple, which hardened from his touch. A bolt of electricity exploded inside of her. Her panties were wet from his hands roving over her body. She trembled against him as he squeezed her ass with his other hand.

His grip tightened, and he pulled her closer against him. She felt his hard cock pressed against her belly. Her knees weakened and liquid fire coursed through her veins.

Seraphina ran her hands over his hard chest. Dain moaned as she slowly explored his chest, from his shoulders to the waistband of his pants.

“Seraphina,” he groaned against her mouth.

He slipped his hands under her tunic and squeezed her breasts, his thumbs rubbing over her nipples.

She tilted her head back and moaned, “Dain…so…oh, my heavens.”

Seraphina pressed against his hard cock and rolled against him. He licked her throat, and then his teeth lightly grazed where his tongue had been.

The world around them disappeared, and Seraphina was lost in the moment. No one existed but she and Dain. They were weightless, and she clung to him as though he was her only lifeline.
