Dain put his arm around her waist and pulled her close to him. She moaned against his lips as his tongue explored her mouth.
His chest tightened as his hand gently caressed her face. He could feel his pulse throbbing wildly in his veins and an agony of need screamed inside of him. A tremor shook him as his emotions were so overwhelming.
The kiss was hot and moist. His tongue swept across her lips. She tasted like clover and honey. The heat from their embrace circled around them, holding them together. His cock hardened painfully against his pants, and he wanted so much to bury himself inside of her.
He pushed his tongue back into her mouth as his hands roamed over her body. The searing heat from her body told him that she wanted him just as much.
She eventually pulled away from the kiss and stared into his eyes. One hand was on the side of his neck and the other splayed out on his chest.
Seraphina put her hand on his chest and bit her bottom lip. “I want to be with you, more than you know,” she whispered. “But we can’t give in to our desires before I figure out what the other part of my prophecy is. I can’t risk you being hurt in any way.”
He nodded, kissed her hands, and left the tent. His heart hurt, but he knew she was right. As much as they wanted and needed each other, they couldn’t risk it.
I have to keep my distance. I can’t let my feelings put me and my people in danger. Unfortunately, there’s no other place she can go where she’d be safe.
Lucian was waiting to speak with him when Dain stepped into the courtyard.
“How is the oracle?”
“She’s awake and fine. The cloaking spell sapped all of her strength and energy, but now that she’s rested, she’ll be okay—especially after she has some of Jasmine’s healing stew.”
Lucian nodded. “Excellent. We’ve discovered that there’s a supply chain moving toward Wyrmhaven. It’s on the outskirts ofthe kingdom right now. If we leave now, we can hit it. Heaven knows we could use the supplies, and it would prevent Malakar from having them.”
“Do you think it could be a trap or ambush?”
Shrugging, Lucian said, “There’s always a chance, but I don’t think so. It’s not one of the larger supply trains, but like I said, it would have a lot of items we need.”
“Let’s take it then,” Dain said.
He quickly found Ronan Drayke who was a half wolf shifter and half fire dragon shifter. “Can you watch over the oracle while we hit the supply chain? She’s done a protection spell that she said would prevent Malakar or his minions from finding her, but I don’t want to take any chances.”
Ronan nodded. “You’ve got it. No harm will come to her.”
“Not with you on guard.”
Lucian had quickly amassed a small army, consisting of Kael, Cassion, Valon, Darius, Kade, and several other dragon shifters who weren’t part of the brotherhood.
They reached the supply train an hour later. The rumbling of dragon wings sounded in the air. Dain led the assault, shooting ice onto the people and shifters who escorted the supply train. The humans scrambled for safety while trying to protect the wagons carrying much-needed supplies into Wyrmhaven.
The guards fought hard, terrified of facing Malakar if they lost the train. A few of the smaller shifters guarding the train shifted and ran into the woods. Dain let them go. If they returned to Wyrmhaven, the supplies would be gone before Malakar could send reinforcements.
It was over in a matter of minutes. Malakar’s loyal guards were either injured or dead. The other guards had disappeared. The dragon shifters landed, transformed into humans, and quickly sorted through the supplies. There was a lot of food, weapons, medical equipment, and even some cloth they coulduse to make new clothing. After they shifted back, each dragon picked up a wagon full of resources and flew back to the ruins.
The people were overjoyed with the bounty the dragon shifters brought back, but Lucian and Dain were suspicious and discussed whether it had been too easy to overtake the guards.
Seraphina went through the supplies, casting enchantments that would destroy any kind of tracking spells that might be attached to the food or other goods before Jasmine and Lily began distributing the provisions to the people.
“The sanctuary is safe—at least for now,” Seraphina declared.

Seraphina
Seraphina struggled to fall asleep. Her eyes burned from exhaustion and every muscle in her body ached from tension. The last few days had been full of anxiety, threats, love, fear, and every other emotion one could imagine.
Normally, her magic didn’t tire her out so much, but she was also accustomed to being in a familiar place with the sacred tree near her, almost as if it gave her some of its ancient power. In spite of the tiredness, her brain wouldn’t quiet down enough for her sleep.
She pictured Dain. His angular face, white-blond hair, and deep blue eyes filled her mind. Seraphina could only imagine what it would be like to touch his muscular, hot body, feeling his hard chest under her palms. She’d told him when she arrived that their nakedness didn’t concern her as she’d seen tons of naked shifters. Sometimes, it was just easier for them to not wear clothes, especially if they transformed into their animal shapes often.
