“Go. I’m tired so I’m going to sleep now.”
“What in the hell is the deal with the drakhenmoor?” Kade asked.
Dain explained about being the only legitimate heir of the First Dragon King.
“Seraphina sacrificed herself to force Dain into awakening his power,” Valon said casually.
“I thought you were taking a nap for a week,” Dain said.
“I didn’t want to be left out of the party,” Valon said. “I misjudged her. She risked her life twice and suffered greatly to help Dain. If that’s not love and dedication, I don’t know what is.”
“Your powers will help us defeat Malakar. He’s weaker and has had several chunks taken out of his armor lately,” Kael said.
Lucian sighed. “We still have a long way to go, though, before we reclaim the Drakon Realm for our rightful king.”
“Soon,” Dain promised.

Seraphina
Seraphina sat next to Valon during breakfast.
“Thank you,” she said.
He looked at her and smiled. “You’re welcome. I don’t know too many people, including the bravest of men, who would have sacrificed themselves the way you did.”
She shrugged. “It had to be done.”
“I’m sorry for the way…”
Seraphina held up her hand and shook her head. “No. You love Dain. He’s your brother, and the two of you will always fight to protect each other. You can’t be blamed for that.” She hesitated for a moment. “Thank you for not telling Dain about the baby. I want to tell him—soon. I found out the day that I… that Malakar…”
He nodded. “I figured you’d want to tell him yourself.”
“I know in my heart that she’s okay, but I’m still nervous. Do you know if she was hurt?”
Valon smiled and patted her back. “I saw you protecting her while the torture was happening. Your shield kept her safe. She’ll be born healthy and will grow up to be a force to be reckoned with.”
“I’ve seen that she’s a celestial dragon.”
He laughed. “Oracle, I’m not talking about that. Her parents are two of the most sarcastic, stubborn, relentless, intelligent people I know.”
Seraphina looked at him with the most serious face she could muster. “We’re sweet, flexible, and incredibly patient—practically saints, really. Everyone in Drakon Realm knows us for our diplomacy, calm tempers, and utter lack of sarcasm.”
Valon looked up at the sky. “Lightning can strike even on sunny days, Oracle.” He stood. “I’ve got a meeting to attend to. We’re going to ramp up this war. Now that Dain’s found his true self and heritage, it’s only a matter of time before the realm remembers what a real king looks like and the consequences of betrayal.”
Deciding she needed to purify herself and retrieve her medallion, Seraphina walked toward the forest.
She turned around when she heard footsteps running after her.
“Where are you going?” Jasmine demanded.
“Just to the creek.”
Jasmine crossed her arms over her chest and glared at her. “Not alone, you aren’t. Not after what happened to you.”
“I promise I’ll be safe.” She leaned in close to Jasmine. “I allowed Malakar’s guards to capture me. I had to. It was the only way to save Dain.”
