“You mean waiting for a debrief.”
Hunter waved a hand in the air as he headed for the door. “Whatever.”
“You always said you wanted to go it alone.” Maha pulled him aside when the others had left. “Is there anything else you’re not telling us?”
“I love Beatriz. I want a life with her, so I’m asking for help to create the space in my life for that to be possible.”
“Right choice.” She hugged him.
“I don’t know what I’ll do if I can’t convince her.”
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
Mid-afternoon Bea heardthe front door open and made her way into the hall. Only two other people had keys, and Anna would have warned her. Plus, both Casildo and Anna would normally be at work.
“Casildo?” Her mouth dropped open in surprise.
“You’re here? I mean, you’re here mid-afternoon,” he babbled.
He looked wonderful, thrusting flowers, champagne and salady things at her.
“So are you.”
“You look pale, are you okay, Beatriz?”
“I’ve taken a few days off work.” She stared at his outstretched arms.
“But, you got the promotion. Your text said Jackson was fired. Did I ever tell you you’re beautiful?”
“I love you.” She sagged against the wall, filling her senses with him.
“Did you mean to say that?” He stared at her.
“I’m babbling, but I’ve been wanting to say those words for forever. Whatever else happens, that’s true.”
“We’re both babbling. So far, I like what I’m hearing.”
