“She’s good at her job if she got you to open up.”
“You already said she’s exceptional.”
“Tell her boss.”
“Okay. But let’s finish this conversation. I mentioned your name. She said she knew you, offered to call you. I don’t know what you’re thinking. Bea didn’t offer any insights.” Mo waved his glass in the air. “Different companies and all that.”
“All that.” Cas grinned.
“I might have some ideas. Husic’s is considering branching out.”
“I’m open to ideas.” A weight eased inside Cas. Mo had been the perfect yin to his yang when they’d worked together. The world had turned, Mo had new priorities, but anything he had to say would be valuable.
“I need to go now. Evie’s expecting me.” Mo placed a hand on his sleeve. “I’ll be in touch. And Evie would love to see you. Come to dinner.”
“I’d love to catch up with her.”
“Bring Bea.”
Beatriz Gomez—my flatmate, not my girlfriend, the star of my fantasies, perceptive enough to get Mo to talk to me, sensitive enough to leave us alone.
CHAPTER NINE
Cas found Beatriz inthe kitchen still in her work outfit.
“I went back to the office,” she said apologetically. “I’ll get changed, then start dinner.”
“I’ll call for a pizza. Let’s take the night off.”
“Thank you. Now, I’ve met your friend Mo, who’s Evie?”
Beatriz yawned, stretching her arms above her head and doing a little shimmy at the same time. He had to bite his tongue not to say “Do it again.”
“Didn’t you ask?”
“Mo and I don’t have a professional or personal relationship. Remember. I was there for the other bloke—my reward for being so sweet about Jackson Smithers.”
