“The fuck you just call her?”

Katarina steps in front of me before the guy can respond. “Oh, um. That’s okay. I can get my own.” She smiles at him but he just gives her a sly wink.

“Ah, I’ll just ask Hallie what you ordered and be back in a flash.”

“No, really. It’s okay.” Katarina tries to stop him but he’s already gone. She sighs then turns to face me, that same fire in her eyes that I’m used to. “What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Me?”

My unbothered tone seems to rile her up even more. “Yes, you! Who the hell else would I be talking to?”

I shrug. “Nothing is wrong with me.”

“Then why are you over here? Interrupting a perfectly harmless conversation and game of darts. I thought you brought us out to have fun?”

I grind my teeth, not liking where this is heading. “I did.”

“Then here’s a wild thought. Let me have fun and stop acting like a hired security guard.” She pushes past me and I say nothing. She’s right. That’s exactly why I came up with the idea to come out tonight. I know she needs to have a little fun. The only flaw in my plan is thatIwant to be the one she has fun with. And seeing as how I literally told her in my own words that I can’t be, I now have a front-row seat to her trying to find someone whocanbe.

I may be the stupidest person I know.

She meets Dickhead back at the bar and I watch as they find a couple of seats at the end, away from where I was sitting with the guys, and engage in a very close conversation. I take my seat and can already see the expressions on my best friend’s faces out of the corner of my eye.

“Not a word, or I will waterboard you in your sleep.”

“Ah, so you’re the violently jealous type,” Bodine teases. I can’t even deny it or tell him to shove it because he is, unfortunately, correct. Apparently, I am the violently jealous type, and I hate it. I hate that I can’t stop staring at her and that I wish it were me on the other end of that conversation—getting to enjoy every smile, giggle, or shoulder shove she has to give.

“I’ll be back.” When I stand from my stool, her eyes meet mine and her expression changes. I barely have time to study it before I turn and head for the bathrooms, because if I stared at her for any longer, I’d lose the last sliver of my self-control.

I’m tempted to slip out the back door and finally try my hand at smoking, maybe that would distract me. Or it will just make me remember the way Katarina looked when she took the onefrom Bodine’s mouth and took a drag from it. How she looks so unbelievably sexy doing the most ridiculous things is infuriating. She can’t even exist without me wanting to break all of my rules and make her mine.

Upon walking back into the bar I see Katarina’s new toy grab her hand and I have to stop and think about how I’m going to handle the situation if she wants to go home with this guy—or worse, bring him back with us. As I’m trying to figure out a way to stop either of those things from happening without her lighting my ass up over not allowing her to have fun, I see her pull away from him. He then places his hand on her back, leaning in to say something else, but she shakes her head no. I’d give my right nut to hear her turn this guy down right now. Then his face twists and I walk closer to them, finally able to hear what they’re saying.

“Like I said, it was fun, and thanks for the drinks, but I’m not looking for anything else tonight.” She backs away from him and I smile.

“What a basic bitch move, letting me buy you drinks all night just to leave me hanging.” I look around the bar, wondering how bad it would be if I knocked this guy’s nose straight.

“Sorry if your blue balls can’t handle being toldno, but I suggest you take your hand off of me unless you want to spend the rest of the night at the hospital.” I cross my arms, waiting to hear what his response will be.

The guy chuckles and my jaw tightens. “And who’s going to put me there, Princess? Hm? You think you could—” He takes another step closer to her, but can’t even finish his sentence before she knees him in the balls, making him hit the floor on all fours, then she stomps on his hand, making him cry out in pain. Then she squats down in front of him, getting eye level with him as she takes his face in her fingers to get his eyes to focus on her.

“Enjoy your stay, I hear the medical staff around here is top-notch.” She grabs a napkin off the bar top just as he groans again.

“You crazy bi—” She shoves the napkin in his mouth and I don’t think I’ve ever been as turned on by someone as I am right now.

“Mind your manners, Jeffery. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” Then she stands up and turns around, finally seeing me standing a barstool away and she crosses her arms over her chest.

“Anything to add?” She holds a hand down to whereJefferyis still crouched on the ground cradling his junk and his hand.

“Seems you handled things just fine, Reaper.” I see a smirk play on her lips then she tilts her chin.

“I’m ready to go.” I’d drop to my knees for her too, but if my Little Reaper asks to go, then that’s what we’ll do. Maybe she’ll give me the chance to make up for my ignorance later.

I whistle for the guys and throw my arm around Katarina as we walk out of the bar, and my smile is undeniable when she leans into me and wraps her arm around my back the entire way out.
