“I think you wereright.”

“About what?” heasked.

“Fate,” she said. “I can’t imagine this happening any other way. Who would have thought that a lawyer from Dallas would end up in the arms of a Montanacowboy?”

“We were meant to be together,” he said with a yawn. “Should we head back to thehouse?”

“No. I want one more thing from you,” she saidsoftly.

“What’sthat?”

“If it would be okay… could you shift into a bear and let me snuggle with you tonight?” sheasked.

His heart soared. He knew his bear would never hurt her, but she was trusting him with her life on blindfaith.

“Of course,”hesaid.

He rolled to his feet and stepped back several paces. They’d already weight-tested the floor to make sure they could store thousands of pounds of supplies in the loft. As he shifted, he watched her expression change from awe-filled toloving.

His bear lumbered across the floor and rolled onto his side next to where she sat. She scooted into the crook of his arm and let him rest his paw on her thigh. Within minutes, her breath slowed into the steady pace of sleep. He closed his eyes, secure in the knowledge that he’d never be aloneagain.

Drew reachedfor the tie at her waist. She took a step toward him. It was all the encouragement he needed. As he slipped the robe from her shoulders, she backed toward the lamp. With a flick of her fingers, she plunged the room into absolutedarkness.

“I want to see you,” hewhispered.

“I’mshy.”

“Why? I think you’regorgeous.”

He pushed the cloth aside, leaving twin trails of molten fire across her belly and hips. He smoothed his hands down over herbuttocks.

“You’re so soft…” he murmured before grazing the top of her shoulder with his lips. His tongue darted out to trace a line across her collar bone. “…andsweet.”

“Oh,God.”

Her head lolled back as he nibbled the edge of her neck. The robe fell past her hips to pool at her feet. She kickeditaway.

“I’ve been wanting to do this all day,” he said. “From the moment I kissed you thismorning.”
