August was sitting behind his desk, resting back in the chair as he flipped his fingers for me to come inside. “Whatcha got there?”
“The best damn grinders this side of the Mississippi.” Trying to use a southern accent, I sounded more like an Australian cowgirl. “Okay, that doesn't work. I brought lunch.” Holding up the bag, I asked, “How's your day going?”
“Same as usual.”
Moving to his desk, I set the food down and passed him a coffee. “I wasn't sure how you take your coffee, so it's just made regular. You left early this morning, I didn't get to say goodbye.”
“Work was calling me.” Peeling back the plastic tab, he blew on the hot coffee and took a sip. “This is good, thanks.”
Nodding, I walked around his desk, picking up a glass paper weight. “How you feeling today?”
“Fine.” August looked down at his desk, stacking some papers and pushing them to the side.
“Are you sure?” I didn't believe him. The way he said it reminded me of how I used to answer my mother after my father left us. I pretended like I didn't give a shit, but inside it was raw.
“I said it's fine, so it's fine.” He was short, his eyes flicking up to look at me.
“I don't believe you.” Stopping at the edge of his desk, I crossed my arms. “I know what happened—”
“Look,” he barked, clenching his jaw. “When I say something is fine, it's fine. I'm a grown ass man, I don't need someone questioning me about what I fucking feel.”
Tilting my head, my lips thinned as my lids turned to slits. “I didn't come here to get yelled at by you because you're too insecure to realize that shit happens. You didn't do anything, it's not your fault.”
“But it doesn't make it easy. I should have fucked your brains out last night, I wanted to hear you scream and beg me for more. Instead, all I got was a pain in my nuts for two different reasons and no relief.”
“Maybe I can fix that.” Stepping behind his desk, I ran my finger up his arm. “Does your door have a lock?”
August looked up at me, his eyes curious. “It does.”
Moving my fingertips across the back of his neck, I trailed them over his arm as I rounded his desk and walked back towards the door. “I know,” I said as I stopped in the center of the room and turned to face him. “I locked it right after I came in.”
“You're a sneaky little minx, aren't you?” he asked, his lips forming a playful smile.
“I can be.” Unbuttoning my long jacket, I let it fall to the floor, pooling around my feet like a black puddle.
His eyes moved up and down my body, jaw dropping open as he realized I was naked under my jacket.
I had more up my sleeve than just lunch and coffee. I was going to make him see that we could have sex anytime, anyplace, it didn't matter. We didn't have to plan it and we never should. Some things still needed to happen naturally.
While last night started out hot, it ended horribly. Sex shouldn't be mapped out like a road trip. It should be spontaneous, it should be exciting, it should be natural. And he needed to accept that there would be times where it wouldn't be perfect, or one of us might not be in the mood, and that was alright.
August licked his lips, reclining back in his chair as he smirked. “Did you go to get lunch and coffee like that?”
“I did.”
His smile broadened as he lifted a hand and rolled his thumb across his fingertips. The way he looked at me sent shivers up my spine, causing goosebumps to speckle my skin and my nipples to harden.
Taking a step forward, August stopped me with one command. “Don't move.” His voice was low, raspy, making my stomach flip and my heart race.
Pushing back from his desk, he took long strides in my direction. I was frozen, his gaze holding me in place, making it so I couldn't move even if I wanted to.
Tipping my head, August gripped my chin between his thumb and index finger, turning it back down. “Stay like this and close your eyes.”
“Why?” I asked, shutting my eyes.
“Because.”
Intense fingers began to massage my scalp, scratching deep into the roots. August kept rubbing and digging, making me moan softly. It felt incredible. His hands moved to my neck, over my shoulders, then back up into my hair.
