I look back again at Jenson as he speaks next. "I promise you, Charlie, you are my everything. I want no one but you for my life-long Luna by my side. But you know how desperately I’ve wanted an heir. I only want to ensure my heir stays with me." Jenson looks hopeful.
"Such a pretty promise." I coo. He puffs up and smiles that slimy smile. I nearly laugh out loud at the audacity.
"Oh." Homewrecker, AKA skank, moans and rubs her stomach. Everyone quickly turns to her. I roll my eyes as she smirks at me when no one is looking. I give her a secret little smile and a wink that causes a look of confusion to flit across her face. He's no prize, skank, but then, neither are you.
Jenson jumps up and comes round to where Ms. Vincent is sitting on the sofa. "Is everything okay?"
I roll my eyes as the same dramatic scene from my vision plays out before me. Skank puts on her little innocent act and declares she is hungry and tired while Jenson starts petting and coddling her.
Jenson starts shouting orders, and within minutes, they bring him pillows and blankets that he stuffs around her and begins hand-feeding her like they are mates.
"Oh, thank you, Jenson, this is just perfect." She actually purrs as she rubs his arm.
Elder Roberts speaks again. "So, everything is settled. Ms. Vincent will be initiated into the pack, under probation, and will move into the Alpha guest apartments in the packhouse." He looks at me, "There won't be any problems with that, will there Luna?"
I still have not spoken a word. "Whatever you all decide is fine with me." I finally say. "Though I am parched, I could use some bottled water, too. Does anyone else require anything to drink or eat? I can request enough refreshments for all?" I scan the room, making sure to meet each person's eyes. Everyone mumbles, shaking their heads and looking to the ground, Jenson included. Ah, an unmistakable scent of shame finally perfumes the air. Good! "I'll leave you all to it then. I have a busy schedule today."
Jenson rises, pulling me towards him, and bends to kiss me. I turn my head so his kiss lands on my cheek. He never even noticed that he missed my lips. He is too busy beaming at the skank. As far as he is concerned, he is set: his doormat wife is compliant, his mistress is moving into his packhouse with him, and his heir will be here any day.Playtime for Daddy.
Chapter 25 – Demands
Charlie
I am not going to sit back and play meek little mate. That's never been my style, and Jenson should have known that. I’ve seen the future, maybe not my future anymore, but I know what is going on here because I’ve done my due diligence. I have a duty to my wolf and myself to not only survive this but to thrive.
I go to my office to review the pamphlet regarding CMS and head down to the clinic. I wave at the nurse on duty at the front desk. "Hey Phyllis, I need to see one of the docs. Which one is available?
Dr. Bridgit sticks her head out of the room behind the nurse’s station. "Hi, Luna. I thought that was your voice I heard. You need to see me?"
"Yes. Can we go to an examination room?"
"Sure. Head to number 9, down the hall; I'll grab my hologram device and meet you there."
I enter the room and sit in one of the chairs. I don't think there is any need for an exam; I just need to have a private conversation. Fortunately, all walls in the clinic and other areas of the pack house are soundproofed to avoid anyone overhearing conversations. Wolves have superior hearing, along with other enhanced attributes.
Dr. Bridgit enters, rolling in her hologram device station. "How can I help you, Luna?"
I hand her the pamphlet about Cheating Mate Syndrome. Her skin pales, and she eyes me warily. "I don't know any other way to say this but to just be direct." I blurt.
"Please do." Dr. Bridgit nods.
"I had a warning dream last night. I don't know where exactly it is leading me, so I am searching for answers. Do you know about Cheating Mate Syndrome.?"
"Yes. We received some preliminary information about it almost a year ago." She hesitates as though she wants to say something else.
After waiting a moment and seeing she wasn't going to continue, I did. "Are you treating anyone currently for CMS?"
Dr. Bridgit drops her gaze to the floor. "Yes."
It appears I am going to have to pry the information from her. "Who?"
"You."
"What?" I stutter. "Explain?"
"You started showing signs of the condition about three months ago when Alpha went to that conference. It was stillnew to us, but Dr. Shannon and I both recognized it early on. We consulted with Dr. Amaris and Dr. Skye, and I made the executive decision to treat you without your knowledge." She admits. "I began administering the drug Amra to you at that time. It’s the vitamin you take every evening."
Then it all clicks into place. I remember in my vision the drug I had been given to ease my Rejected Mate Syndrome symptoms. "Why didn't you tell me?"
