“I am happy for Asher.” I breathe out. “He got hurt just as badly as Lana and I in this mess. I will admit that a part of my heartwill always ache for the loss, but Reggie has mended me so well.” I reach out and touch his face tenderly. “So thankful for you, my love,” I whisper."
“And I you, my love."
Epilogue 1 – The Skank
Reggie
I’m in the gym, focusing on deadlifts when the door suddenly opens, and light pierces the shadows. I look up, my expression tightening as I spot Tracy Vincent sashaying in with a flirty smile. Leaning against the door frame, she purrs, “Reggie.” Her voice is syrupy sweet. “I’m so glad I found you down here; a lonely wolf.”
I wipe my hands on a towel, not trying to suppress the irritation bubbling beneath my skin. “What do you want, Tracy?”
“Oh, come on. Can’t a girl watch a handsome guy work out?” She steps closer, attempting to reach out and touch my arm. “You know, I always thought you’d make a much better Alpha than Jenson ever could and a much better-looking one, too.”
I narrow my eyes, turning my back on her in disgust. “That’s not exactly a compliment coming from you.”
She feigns a pout, her expression shifting from flirtatious to faux hurt. “Why do you have to be so cold, Reggie? I just thought we could have some fun together. You know, just the two of us.”
“Fun? The two of us?” I scoff, pushing the barbell back into place, and turn to face her. “I am surprised you have such an extremely high opinion of yourself after the mess you helped create. Do you think I want to lose Charlie and my mind like Jenson did? I'm not him; I know what a true gem Charlie is, and Jenson realized too late that you were just a cheap knockoff.”
She takes a step forward, sniffing but undeterred. “I’m just saying...there is an undeniable chemistry between us, it’s palpable. Why not explore it? Jenson’s gone, and Charlie—well, we both know she doesn’t see you for the true Alpha you are.”
My jaw clenches. “Charlie is everything to me. I’m not interested in you or your games. If you’re looking for another sucker, find someone else.”
Tracy stepped closer, closing the gap between us as she pushed up against me, the wall at my back. “You could have me at your feet, Reggie. Just think about it. You and me—”
“Enough.” My voice cut through the air, sharp and uncompromising, as I shove her away roughly. “I said I’m not playing your games. I don’t want anything to do with you, Tracy.”
The smile slips from her face, replaced by a flicker of anger and frustration. “You don’t know what you are missing. Jenson favored me over Charlie, and I bet you will, too.”
“I believe you are wrong; Jenson walked away from you after a week, and I am not even joining the ranks of that idiot,” I reply, simmering with anger; my stare is steady. With that, I returned to my weights, refusing to acknowledge her presence further. I can feel her frustration, but I am done tolerating her ploys.
As I turn my back to her once more to continue my deadlifts, I hear her footsteps fading away behind me. The sound of the door swinging open is followed by a sharp gasp and a giggle. I glance over to see Tracy stepping out, a triumphant grin on her lips, clearly savoring her trickery. Just then, Charlie walks in, her eyes narrowing as she shifts her gaze from me to Tracy, honing onto her like a wolf zeroing in on its prey.
“Charlie,” I start, but she is already advancing on Tracy, her voice a low, dangerous growl.
“Tracy, what are you doing here?” Charlie demands, her dangerous mouth mere inches from Tracy.
Tracy pauses, feigning innocence. “Oh, just checking on my favorite Alpha. Is that a crime?”
“You know exactly what you’re doing,” Charlie shoots back, her voice steady but laced with fury. “You think you can just come here and worm your way into Reggie’s life like you did with Jenson? You’re pathetic.”
Tracy tilts her head, her expression a mix of mockery and amusement. “Pathetic? I’m just trying to be friendly, Charlie. You should try it sometime. After all, you’re the one who’s been left behind before.”
A tense silence fell between them, the air thick with animosity. I step closer, ready to intervene, but Charlie holds her ground, undeterred.
“Left behind?” Charlie scoffs, her eyes narrowing. “If you want to check the history books, I am the one that did the leaving, and what did my leaving cause? Where is Jenson now? Certainly not with you. Jenson is paying for what he did, and he can’t tolerate the sight of you.
Jenson begs the goddess daily for a chance to go back and change what he did to me because he still loves me and regrets you. You, on the other hand, are just a reminder of everything he lost.”
Tracy’s smile falters momentarily, and I can see the pain bubbling beneath her surface. “You think you’re so secure now that you’re Alpha? Just wait until you see how quickly things can change. I know how to play the game, Charlie, and Reggie’s not as untouchable as you think. It’s only a matter of time, and he’ll be mine, too.”
Charlie’s expression darkens as she laughs, a sharp, bitter sound. “You really think you can just brush me aside? Reggie and I are ina different relationship. One that I am very secure in. You’ll see how strong we are when it matters.” Charlie smiles confidently at Tracy. She knows that she is the only one for me, forever. Someone like Tracy doesn’t even stand a chance.
“Weren’t you and Jenson strong?” Tracy tries to get her digs in.
“Apparently not, but you are his biggest regret because he lost me because of your schemes and his weakness.”
With that, Tracy lunges for Charlie, who immediately grabs Tracy by the neck and squeezes. Tracy struggles and fights but can’t get Charlie's hands from her neck. As I watch Tracy’s face turn blue, Charlie seethes in her face. “I, Charlie Marks, Alpha of the Little Silver Creek Pack, banish you, Tracy Vincent, to Prisoner Island for the crime of attempted mate bond tampering.”
