Chapter One
It was earlier thanusual when Lucy, who hated shopping, raced into the supermarket on the way home.Usually, she shopped online but today did a mad dash through the aisles.Getting back to her car, she shoved the bags into the rear of the RAV then closed the hatch.
Opening the driver’s side door, Lucy rummaged through the small change in the glove compartment, grabbing enough for a latte.Locking her car again, she headed toward the local coffee shop.
“Hi, Lucy.The usual?”
“Hi, Eddie.Yes, please.”
A few minutes later, she walked out of the shop with her latte.Time to get back home and relax.
As she stepped to the side of her car, something like a brick wall hit her.She discovered the collision had been with a solid chest belonging to a rather stubby—and smelly—male. He’d barreled into her, but thankfully she’d managed to keep upright.
Staring at her in surprise, he then grinned, waved his cell phone, shrugging his shoulders as if to say ‘I was on the phone’.
Annoyed, Lucy quickly moved out of his way in case he charged again.
As he continued down the path, she noticed her latte had taken the full brunt of the impact. Her jeans and tan dress-shirt were both soaked with coffee.“You’ve got to be kidding me!”She glared at the back of the man as he wandered down the footpath, head down, phone to ear, still obviously oblivious to passersby.
Her now soggy clothes felt horrid, and Mr.Brick Wall hadn’t even bothered to apologize.
“Stupid man!”
Once home, she unloaded the car, put the perishables away, then stripped off her wet clothing, changing into a pair of sweats and a t-shirt.Lucy rinsed her coffee-stained clothing in cold water, then threw them into the washing machine with a few other dirty clothes, hoping the coffee marks would come out of the shirt.Fingers crossed. Finally, she packed away the remaining groceries and made herself a coffee to replace the one she’d ended up wearing.
Next morning, Lucy woke giggling. She’d had a weird erotic dream, and Mr.Brick Wall featured in it, along with some strange things to do with a latte.
“Wish I’d replaced Mr.Brick Wall with some sexy movie star!”
Lucy called in to the coffee shop again the next afternoon.
“Hi, Lucy.”
“Hello, Eddie, the usual please. No temp jobs next week so you won’t see me.”
“That’s a shame.”
When he gave her the latte, Eddie said, “Here’s hoping you get a new assignment soon, Lucy. And I hope it’ll be nearby so I don’t miss your smiling face.”
“Thanks, Eddie.”She raised her cup in acknowledgment.“Here’s hoping.”
Lucy made sure there were no ‘brick walls’ as she walked back to her car.The temporary position she held at the moment finished tomorrow, Friday, and then she’d be back on the waiting list for something else.
Driving home, she thought at times she had no idea where she was.Sometimes her temporary positions lasted a few months, other times just a few days.
“Have to say it’s hard to make friends when you’re only in one place for a little while.”
Lucy had been offered full-time work with a number of companies, but she honestly enjoyed the variety of being a temp.
“But it would be nice to make friends, even better to find a nice, sexy man.”
But she had this crazy idea that somehow she’d missed her chance. That boat sailed long ago, I suspect. All she had to look forward to was casual dating. Not to mention her secret longing she didn’t share with anyone—a secret she believed made her different from other people.Lucy craved meeting a man who would be able to control and order her during lovemaking, giving her no choice. It was her dark secret, one she’d never shared with another person.
Bet that’s why my marriage never worked.Warren was nice but certainly not the controlling type. She gave a laugh and said out loud, “Oh, well.I guess I can only dream about finding a perfect man—or even two.”
Reaching home, she parked the car in the garage, went inside, and wandered into her library.Lately, she’d buried her head in sweet sexy romance books rather than her usual thrillers and murder mysteries.Books about dreamy lovers, sexy hot men, and her favorite—ménages. One time she read a BDSM book—well, quarter of it.A woman at one of her workplaces had raved about it.She’d never read anything with controlling men before.
But this new book shocked her.Even though she wanted someone to control her, she couldn’t imagine ever being involved with someone like the man in the book—a Dom he called himself and considered the woman his slave. Not once had he bothered about what she wanted. She had to just accept what he did gladly.Lucy gave a shiver.
