“She called me Daddy.” I reach over and hug Addy, unable to fight back all the emotion.
“She sure did,” Addy whispers. “That’s what you are, you know.”
“And did you hear Sam?”
“Yes. Melted my heart.”
“How did we get here?” I ask. “You know they love you like that too.”
She nods, her eyes spilling over again. “I feel like we’re the luckiest people in the world.”
There are sniffles around the room and we look around to see our friends wiping their faces too.
“You guys are the cutest,” Sadie says, her face scrunching up as she cries harder. “And those kids. I can’t take it.”
She comes over and hugs us and the rest of them follow, telling us how happy they are for us.
“I will be so glad when it’s official,” I say, letting out a long exhale as I dry my own damn face. “We’re still just holding our breath.” I thread my fingers through Addy’s.
Her chin wobbles and she nods.
“That has gotta be the most stressful thing,” Poppy says, clutching her heart. “Any update on the timeline?”
I shake my head. “No. Nothing for sure. Your dad has been such a huge help though,” I tell Weston. “And Sutton…I know he’s trying to move it along as much as he can, which is incredible.”
“They’ve both been great,” Addy adds.
“Anytime you need to get your mind off of all of it…or to vent about it…we’re here, okay?” Henley says.
Everyone else chimes in with their agreement.
“Thanks. You and our families…you’re keeping us afloat,” I say, looking around the room. Then I put my hand on Addy’s chin and kiss her lightly. “And this woman right here. I’d be lost without her.”
She waves a hand over her face, shaking her head. “Don’t get me crying again,” she says.
I kiss her and we all wander back into the kitchen, refreshing our drinks.
Addy stands in the doorway between our bedroom and bathroom, that soft smile still in place.
“You were really good tonight,” she says.
“I know,” I tease.
She steps closer, fingers trailing up my chest. “You’re hot no matter what you do,” she whispers. “Singing to Britney. Delivering kittens. Putting the kids to bed. Rocking my world in every single way.”
“I want to rock your world right now.” I lean down, capturing her mouth in a slow, lazy kiss.
But she pulls back, biting her lip, suddenly shy.
“I have a crazy thought,” she says.
I lean in, kissing my way down her neck. “I’m having a crazy thought too.”
“I’m scared to even say.”
That gets my attention. “Well, now I have to know. You can tell me all your crazy thoughts.” I smile at her and she takes a deep breath.
“What if we go off birth control?” Her words rush out.
