“Do youwishyou were dating him?” Fuck me, that growl in my tone kind of sounds like Bowie on a normal day.

Addy sits up straighter and her cheeks get fiery again. Her eyes narrow again and my dick stands at attention.Yes, ma’am, whatever you say, ma’am.That’s whathesays, not me, becauseIam in control of this situation, nothernormy dick.

And I don’t think I’ve ever thought or said the wordnor, in my head or otherwise, but it just feels fitting right now.

“I’ve never really thought about it,Penn.” The way she saysPennsounds like a curse word.

Is shemadat me right now? I don’tthinkso.

“But maybe I should. Camden is great,” she adds.

I tap the table. “Maybe you should. I just hope he’s okay with you disappearing out of thin air.”

She tosses her napkin on the table and leans in. “He would be, because he’s anadultwho listens and understands when an explanation is given.” She turns and looks at the rest of the table, and they’re all staring at us in shock. She stands up. “I’m sorry to cut this evening short. Thanks so much for the invitation.Maybe we can try again sometime, girls. And I’ll see you guys on Monday.”

“But,” Sadie stands up, “you rode with us. Come on, stay.” She glares over at me. “We’ll behave, I promise.”

“I’m exhausted from the move. We’ll do it again. I’ll get an Uber back, don’t worry.” She hugs Sadie and the rest of the girls and walks away.

Every eye zeroes in on me.

“What the hell was that?” Elle says between her teeth.

“Penn Hudson!” Tru says and I flinch.

I’ve never been on the wrong side of Tru. Never been on the wrong side of any of them really, but now they’re looking at me like I ran over a kitten.

“You go and make that right immediately,” Sadie says. “She is lovely and she is Coach Evans’ daughter. You were such a jerk to her.”

“She’s the girl I met in the Bahamas,” I say.

Rhodes nods as the girls freak out over that little tidbit. “I hadn’t had a chance to tell you,” he says to Elle. “We just found out before this and didn’t know you were bringing her to dinner.”

“Ooo,” Elle winces. “Sorry, friend.” She shoots me an apologetic look. “But…I still think you should go apologize.”

“What even was that?” I ask, yanking on my hair. “I don’t know what came over me. I couldn’t stop.”

“That, my friend, wasjealousy,” Henley says, and then they all freaking laugh.

Well, fuck.

I’ve never been a jealous person in my life and I fucking hate it.

CHAPTER EIGHT

THE PLAN

ADELINE

The moment I walked in and saw that hot man who knows how to get my pulse flaring, I should have turned right back around, thanked the girls for the invite, and faked a stomach virus. But no. Instead, I sat here with Penn shooting me furious looks and having an attitude with me.

Nope, not putting up with that.

I walk outside, stepping onto the quiet sidewalk as I dig in my purse for my phone. I just need to call a ride, get home, and pretend this night never happened.

But life just can’t be easy. The door swings open behind me.

“Addy.”
