“Naturally.”

We sit down at the table and for the first few minutes, there’s nothing but the sound of spoons hitting the sides of bowls.

Finally, he pushes his bowl to the side and leans forward, clasping his hands together. “You have to get a tattoo on your ring finger.”

“What else?”

He shrugs. “That’s it. I already told Grady that we were getting tattoos done to symbolize the marriage.”

“My sisters are going to love that. And it beats having a rock on my finger getting in the way of practicality.”

“I knew you were my kind of girl.”

I swallow hard, not sure what to think about Joshua any more than he knows what to think of me. It might have been easier to just ask Aiden to kill Logan after all.

Hiding a DEA agent’s body and making the entire murder disappear wouldn’t be too hard.

The long game is going to be more than worth it, though.

Joshua stares at me for too long, but it’s not with the affection anyone would expect two people to stare at each other with. Instead, it’s like he’s assessing me, waiting to see if I’m going to fight him any longer.

“Then I guess we have a deal, if those are your only conditions.” My voice breaks slightly.

I don’t think I’ve ever second-guessed myself this much.

The look in his eyes intensifies, drifting between me and the knife near my right hand.

Rolling my eyes, I move away from the knife. “Nobody is going to believe this marriage is real if you keep looking at me like I’m going to kill you.”

“Then stop looking at me like you’re going to kill me.”

“No promises.”

He grabs the knife off the counter, holding it firm in his grasp. As he crosses the distance between us, I get wary.

There’s something about the way he moves, like a predator stalking its prey, that puts me on edge.

I’m used to being the predator, the one in power, but with Joshua, I can’t.

He won’t let me.

And I hate to admit that I like it, especially as he sets the knife to my throat, sliding the edge along my skin.

“If you so much as think about crossing me…” His voice is soft and sultry despite the way he draws a drop of blood.

And even as the sentence hangs, his message is delivered.

Loud and clear.

Chapter Six

JOSHUA

“You’re done fuckingwith the Lynde family.” I sit down across from Logan at his desk.

I glance at the picture of him and Bella sitting beside his computer.

It was taken on their wedding day.
