I get into the passenger seat with a grin. “I thought you might try to run me over.”

“It was a consideration.” The irritation in her voice is a thin veil for her amusement. “I would hate to ruin that pretty face of yours, though. It really is the only thing you have going for you.”

Snorting, I lean over and turn up the music. “You know, sooner or later, I’m going to make you like me.”

“I never said I didn’t like you.” She turns onto the street and heads down the road. “I agreed to pretend to marry you, didn’t I?”

Why does her saying that make my heart skip a beat?

“That was because you like massive mountains of cocaine.”

She tips her head back, showing me the underside of her nose. “Don’t think so.”

Laughing, I stretch out my legs and get comfortable. “If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought that was a joke.”

“I don’t sample the product. Now, hand me a joint and a glass of white wine and I might be singing a different tune. Only on weekends, though. I don’t like to try and deal with money laundering when my head is all foggy.”

“Look at how much we’re learning about each other.”

She scoffs and drums her fingers on the wheel in time to the beat of the song. Her gaze is fixed on the sights of Manhattan as she heads out of the city and into the suburbs.

I whistleas we finish walking through the office building. “This is an impressive setup. You run an entire construction company and not only is it doing legitimate business for some of the biggest architects in the city, but you also shovel a shit ton of dirty money through it.”

Skyla beams as she bends over her desk and checks something on her schedule. “I know. It’s a lot of work, but I really like what we do here. I try to run things from the background as much as possible, though.”

“Why?”

“I knew Logan was following me. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I knew things were starting to go to hell about a year ago when I caught him taking pictures of me.”

“Are you the reason he had a broken arm?”

She laughs, her eyes shining with a wicked gleam that has me wanting to bend her over her desk just to see that mischief backin her eyes. “It could’ve been worse for him. I thought about castrating him, but I left my knife home that day.”

“I fully believe you would do it, too.”

“Should’ve, after he cheated on me. Gave it some serious thought, too, but pretending like I didn’t care seemed to hurt him more.”

“He was an idiot.”

Skyla nods and grabs a couple of files from the desk, tucking them into a large black purse. “Tell me something I don’t know.”

“I think it’s incredibly impressive that you built up a business like this. You have a good head for business on you. Remind me to book a time with you to look through my business structure to find out what else I could be doing.”

“You really want me to do that?” She sounds skeptical, as if her brother isn’t asking her to take a look at his business all the time.

Maybe he isn’t.

Aiden would have to be a fool not to see Skyla and her potential. But then again, I know people have a way of underestimating their siblings. It was a mistake I made with Logan once in my life, and it’s one I’ve never made again.

“Got everything you need?”

She walks out of the office, leaving me to follow behind her as we head back toward the parking lot. “Yeah. And I thought about it more. You’re right. We should live together.”

Skyla dancesaround the room to the music pounding through the house as she tapes up another box. She seems oblivious to me as I stand in the doorway of her bedroom, watching her shake her ass, hands running around her waist.

She spins, and her eyes widen when they fall on me.

Her cheeks turn a bright shade of red. “How long were you standing there?”
