She did that nose thing again. How was I ever going to get over that?

“The great mango mystery.”

“Oh. Right. You know, we really don’t have to—”

“Aren’t you curious? Even just a little bit?”

She chewed her lip thoughtfully before sighing. “Okay, yeah, I suppose I am a little bit curious.”

“Great. So. Pancakes and then an investigation.”

I walked off towards the buffet thinking I might need to get in a quick call with Ripley, too, just to prove I did know how to be a morning person sometimes. Though, she’d probably figure out it was Iona related and then I’d never hear the end of it. Maybe I wouldn’t call after all.

???

“Okay,” I said to Iona as we stepped out of the main building and she pushed her sunglasses on. She had good taste—sleek, cat eye, good with every outfit.

“Okay?” she repeated back, blushing as she watched me taking her in.

I grinned, pushing on my own, heart-shaped sunglasses. “Okay, let’s start with the bungalows around ours. We can see whether they’ve also received mangoes, or whether they sent me the mango from you.”

“Why would they do that? I don’t even know who’s in those rooms.”

“Uh, obviously because they know I’m amazing and that you need me in your life?”

She laughed, looking down at the sand. “Regardless of whether or not that’s true—”

“It is.”

She rolled her eyes affectionately. “Okay. Well, regardless, that still doesn’t track. How would they know my name?”

I lifted my glasses, narrowing my eyes to look her over. “You really have no idea, do you?”

“No idea of what?”

“The fact that people in real life know you.”

She shook her head furiously. “No, that’s not true. A few people, like you, sure, but not so many that multiple people at the same resort do.”

“I watch your videos, remember? I know how many views you get.”

She laughed. “Are you now telling me you’ve only watched each video once?”

I choked on my own saliva. How dare she call me out like that?

“Hmm?” she prompted with the cheekiest grin I’d seen her give.

I laughed. “Fine. I might have watched more than once. I don’t see how that’s relevant.”

“Because every view could just be you, watching over and over again.”

I shook my head, leading her up onto the deck that led to our bungalows. “As your number one fan, I will say it’s a possibility, but I’ve seen you live, so Iknowit’s not just me sitting in a theater alone.”

She stopped, forcing me to turn back to look at her. “You’ve seen me live?”

“Oh. Right. I hadn’t mentioned that yet. Yes, of course I have. I dragged Ripley, Alicia, and a very pregnant Harlow along, too. Don’t worry, she had a great time.”

She softened. “You’d say that no matter what.”
