“This is the scoop of the century. Plus, this is about Jin, the hottest rock star in the world right now. He’s the male Taylor Swift, except he has an even tighter ass. I mean, I’d bend him over in a second. Who wouldn’t? He may play the cold, cocky bad boy on stage, but I bet in real life, he could be turned into mygood boy. Come on, give me something.”
“Not until I have the evidence.”
“But I’m your baby brother. Don’t you love me?”
I laugh. “Those puppy dog eyes haven’t worked since you were six.”
“But I’m so cute.”
I laugh again, trying not to think about the image of Jin as agood boy.
But he would bemygood boy…
I shift from foot to foot, as my muscles spasm.
It’s been a long twelve-hour shift in Coffee Knot Tea, the business that I run with Piper and Chase.
The coffee shop is unique because it truly only serves coffee to drink but of every variety and from all around the world.
Sometimes, Piper experiments, inventing new styles of coffee behind the glass counter at the back of the shop, where right now, he’s dancing and singing, rather than tidying up after our long day.
He gets easily distracted.
The counter is filled with pastries, cupcakes, and slices of fudge chocolate cake. We have a deal to buy them in from the bakery further down Bond Street, the Dough Knot.
I love the fact that the bakery is run by a brother and sister as well, an Omega and an Alpha.
I love even more that it’s the Omega, Candy, who is the star baker.
Piper’s dream is to be the first Omega to have a coffee named after him.
The only reason that the elite packs lower themselves to come into a business where Reject Omegas openly work is because Piper serves the best coffee in the state.
Who would have thought that coffee could be part of the revolution for Omega rights?
Alphas would reform anything in America for the chance to get a decent cup of coffee.
Moonlight shines through the glass front of the shop, which is finally closed to customers.
My nose wrinkles at the delicious, rich scent of coffee. It’s become the smell of pack.
Home.
Safety.
The room is small but cozy with half a dozen maple tables and chairs laid out in front of the counter. I smile at the wall behind me, which I painted with a glittering mural of dragons bursting out of cages.
It’s the copy of a painting, which was shown once on a vlog by my favorite rock star Idol, Jin.
Our pack divided the decoration of the shop between us. We took a wall each.
Chase painted the back wall with a howling silver wolf. Piper stuck holographic stars across the wall behind the counter in honor of the Idol who he supports, who is called Immortal.
Piper and I are as much rock fanatics as we are coffee ones.
I stretch out my arms, shaking the pain from them.
It’s not easy working two jobs — three, including my secret one.
