“YES!” I jump up from excitement. “Absolutely! Let’s do this! How soon can we leave?”
He chuckles softly, amused at my reaction. “I thought you might say that.”
“Where’s she?” I pace the room, my mind racing as I already try to make a plan and think of ways to explain things to her.
His eyes follow me with a quiet intensity. “Fort Lauderdale.”
“Okay.” I stop, focusing my attention back on him. I notice the way his broad shoulders seem tenser than usual, how still he is, sitting on the edge of the bed, his clawed fingers curling slightly against the blanket.
For a moment, everything fades into the background, and his presence fills the space. My heart picks up speed again, but for a completely different reason this time—we haven’t been intimate for the past few days, due to him being always busy. I just want him so much.
I swallow, fighting to keep a sober mind. “How are we going to get to Florida from here?”
“It will be the fastest if we fly there.”
“Oh. Like, on a plane?”
He confirms with a nod.
I’m sure it would be much less trouble if someone else went instead of me. But I know Alex is doing this to prove to me that I’m not useless here. And have I mentioned how much I love him?
“We can go undercover,” he says, already answering my next question. “I have a new ID for you, and Penny thought thiswould also be needed as a disguise.” He hands me a fake driver’s license and a long, brown wig, which I find hilarious.
“And you?” I raise a brow. “Will you travel as a human?”
“I won’t be able to hold the shape for that long. But I can go as your… pet.”
I bite my bottom lip to stifle a mocking laughter. “Alex, but you’re awolf.”
“I was convincing enough to foolyouonce, wasn’t I?”
I narrow my gaze at him. “Did you just call me stupid?”
“Never, my love,” he tells me with a smile before shifting into his wolf form faster than I blink.
This is the first time I see him ever since he revealed his true self, and I honestly missed the dog. But knowing the truth now, I can’t see him the same anymore.
German Shepherd my ass! I don’t know who I was fooling. He doesn’t even resemble any wolf species that exists in nature—he’s too massive, too intelligent, too… beastly. Maybe Iamstupid after all.
You aren’t!I hear his voice in my head, his yellow eyes flashing playfully. But you’re mad for bringing a wild animal into your home. Zero self-preservation skills.
He’s right.
I can’t even imagine him on a commercial flight. Surely, no one would believe that such a majestic beast could be a pet. Will he have to be locked in a crate in cargo? Or perhaps he could be allowed in the main cabin if he wears a service animal vest?
I shake my head to stop this overthinking—he must have it all figured out already. I then approach him with a wide smile, ready to give him some pets.
“Oh, I missed the puppy!” I exclaim happily, just to tease him.
The puppy? He snarls at me, clearly annoyed, his sentient gaze locks onto mine, bold and unyielding.
I ignore it, kneeling beside him. “Who’s my good boy? Are you my good boy?” I stroke his upper chest affectionately.
His growling reverberates through the echoey chamber, a low, animalistic sound that sends shivers down my spine. His big, sharp teeth glisten as he bares them, thick fur bristling at his nape. His sudden nudge sends me off balance, and I tumble backward on the ground, landing on my back with the hem of my skirt lifted at my waist, exposing my quivering thighs to him. Without any warning, he pushes his cool snout between my legs, forcing them apart.
My head shoots up. “What are you doing?”
What does it look like?He licks the inside of my naked thigh, starting from my knee and slowly trailing his long tongue down to my center, his teeth lightly scraping my sensitive skin, leaving goosebumps behind.
