Sara tucked her bottom lip into her mouth and chewed. Maybe she should have asked these questionsbeforeshe seduced him in the shadows of the night. But, honestly, there was no way she could have waited any longer. With all the craziness of running from Rulari guards and acid rain, Korben had been her one and only staple.
She ran a finger down his jaw. His dark hair spilled around him, laying like silk against the pillow. Last night, the strands had flown into his eyes and dangled in her face like powerful snakes. He would shake it out of his eyes in between stroking her and she would grip it in her fists to urge him on.
Tingles spread down her skin and wove around her spine as her gaze slid down to his lips. No one kissed like Korben. He sucked and savored until she was dizzy. His fingers knew just how to hold her, and his tongue knew just how to invade her. It felt like he was seducing her mouth.
Sara hadn’t known such a thing was possible, but then, she was practically living the impossible. She was the mate of an alien who could bring her to the edge of combustion with his voice alone.
Her gaze moved to Korben’s massive shoulders. His tattooed chest. His lean hips. He was sohuge.Even in earth standards, Sara was on the shorter side. Yet their bodies had fit like two puzzle pieces snapping together.
It shouldn’t have worked. He was an entirely different species and so muchbiggerthan her, but it just… did.
And it was perfect.
More than that.
Last night was almost… spiritual. When Korben had interlaced his fingers with hers and dropped his head into her neck, she’d heard him muttering words that sounded ancient and binding.
In that moment, her entire body had shuddered, and she’d cried out, responding to his words as if they were what she’d been waiting all her life to hear.
Korben hadn't given her a chance to catch her breath, much less try to understand him. He twisted her around and claimed her again. And again. And again. Alien stamina was truly… something else.
But that was last night.
In the dark.
In the heat of passion.
In rowdy desperation.
Sara wondered where they would stand in the light of day. Her past was littered with jerks who broke up with her as soon as they’d gotten between her legs. After a night of fun—mostly on their part and not hers—the relationship would fizzle.
Her heart had never been in any of those flings, so the hurt had been mild.
Would this time be different?
Korben hadn’t been chasing her for anything physical. If anyone had been pushing last night, it was her. But the point still stood. What would her dynamic with Korben be now that they’d explored that deepest level of intimacy? And more importantly, would she be able to survive if he rejected her?
She’d never understood the choice her sister made. Why didn’t Janet just come to her? They were sisters. Best friends. They shared everything together.
A lump formed in Sara’s throat. Her sister chose to deal with her pain alone. She chose to end it all without any consideration for the person she would leave behind. And a part of Sara had always been bitter about that.
But now, she understood a little more of what her sister might have been feeling. Though Janet’s choice was never the right answer, the overwhelming power of the heart—made to flutter and made to break—could tear a person in half.
Even now, she felt Korben’s touch on her body. She felt his breath on her neck. Felt his fingers on her hips, on her throat, on her soul. He had so much power and that made her so, so skittish.
She had to pull back.
Just a little.
Just… in case.
Sara felt a soft caress on her cheek and glanced up to find Korben staring at her. His purple eyes glowed violet in the morning light. One heavy blue finger stroked her skin, starting from the base of her jaw to her ear and back.
She trembled from the tender, almost weightless touch.
Something in his expression made her pause.
What was it?
