“I can help.”
Korben sighed. How could his mate irritate him and amuse him in the same breath? “You can be of much assistance, but your involvement is the last resort. I want you to remain here with Enthara.”
Sah-ah opened her mouth to argue, but he shot her a dark look and she quieted.
As they neared the dwelling, Tiegan rushed out to meet them. “Korben!”
“Is something wrong?” Sah-ah demanded, her eyes moving past his comrade to the inside of the dwelling.
“I think I might have a clue about Clavas’s whereabouts.” Tiegan glanced at her and then lowered his voice. “Should we discuss this inside?”
“She knows Tiegan,” Korben said with a shake of his head.
“And I can help,” Sah-ah added. “Two heads are better than one, right?”
Korben did not understand that phrase, but it made him smile. His mate’s courage was incredibly appealing to him and, for a second, he wished, indeed, that he could indulge in another round with her. But they had bigger matters at hand.
He kept his hands at his sides and away from her undergarments. “I want you by my side, my heras.” He spoke in a low voice, his eyes narrowed on hers. “Would you like to join us as we strategize?”
“The females are eating in the kitchen,” Lans said, appearing in the doorway. “They both accepted the neural connectors and they are asking for you.”
Tiegan scoffed. “He makes it sound like it was a simple procedure.”
“What happened?” Sah-ah asked.
Lans rubbed his neck. “Eema tried to smash my head with a plate.”
Tiegan chuckled. “She would have injured him too had I not stopped her.”
Sah-ah winced, recalling her own painful experience with that neural connector. “How did you convince Emma to get her head drilled?”
“We didn’t.” Tiegan’s lips quirked. “Her comrade did. It seems Eema would rather endure the painful procedure than hear the other human chat endlessly about it.”
Sah-ah smiled.
Korben took her hand and squeezed it. “Will you go to them?”
“Later.” She glanced up at him. “Right now, we have a mission.”
His lips quirked up. “We?”
“Yes.We.” She nodded sharply. “Let’s rescue your brother.” Her eyes darkened with determination. “And let’s get your Healer back.”
Thirty-Three
Sara
“This is insane,”Lilliana shrieked.
“Which part?” Sara paced from one side of the room to the other. “Because there’s a lot.”
Lilliana threw her hands up. “Try…everything!”
Emma lifted two fingers. “I concur.”
“Okay. Tell me where you got confused and I’ll run over it again.”
Lilliana pointed at the zapten peering at them with glowing grey eyes. Korben’s eyes. Sara’s heart skipped a beat as she watched the visual representation of her mate’s emotions. He was heading into battle and she had to trust that he would be okay. He’d chosen to leave her behind, but it wasn’t because he thought she wasn’t capable.
