It's worth the risk, though, it has to be. With this new information Kentworth stupidly provided, I have even more of a reason to get out than just saving my friends.
I have to save my mate and his pack too.
"I'm only going to take eight tubes of blood today, Zitkala,” Kentworth says as he preps the small table he'll slide over next to the one I'm lying on. “Four in your human form, four as your wolf, and then we'll move to the physical portion of things to get a baseline since I'm sure things have changed a bit after your stay in the Black Box. Then I'll administer your vitamins and we'll run the physical tests again.” He pauses and glances at me over his shoulder. “I have a new test, one I'm most curious to try. You don't mind, do you?"
"No.” I lick my lips and start slowly waking my sleeping wolf. "I don't mind. What kind of test?"
He goes back to prepping the tray. "Since Hotah and Chumani were so successful in the breeding program, I thought perhaps we could see if that would fair the same for you."
Fuck no.
Absolutely not.
This asshole isnotgoing to breed me like a thoroughbred, and he is definitely not doing it with anyone who isn't my mate.
Hell no.
But I can't say that, not if I want to keep him distracted. Not if I want to get out.
"Did you choose someone for me?" Gods, I hate pretending, I hate all of this shit so goddamn much. And hopefully I won’t have to keep it up for much longer.
"Actually..." Kentworth finishes with the tray and moves toward his desk. "I thought we could choose together. Hotah is my preference since he seems to possess the traits needed to breed successfully, but I selected a few others that would be almost as equally qualified. Not all wolves, though. I hope you don't mind."
"Not at all,” I grit through clenched teeth feeling my wolf stir as she begins to stretch and shake out her limbs. I feel my wolf prime for a shift. "I've never been picky."
He chuckles and nods. "Excellent.” Kentworth picks up several large files from the desk and starts sifting through them. "We can do that now, then, so my guards can ready the male. That way when you are done with your physical testing, he can be brought right in. I may have to give him something to move things along, you know how difficult it can be for one to become aroused in such a sterile environment. And don’t take offense to this, but your appearance may not help set the mood either, my dear."
My wolf howls in rage, and within seconds my body is twisting, breaking, mending, and growing. She tears through my human form so fast I barely get to enjoy the feeling, but when the straps on the table break and we lunge for Kentworth, I forgive her.
He lurches forward and folds in half over the desk, my wolf's paws on his back, the files he was holding now scattered all over the floor and the tray knocked to the ground. And just when my wolf opens her jaws, opening them wide in order to tear into his neck, I have to remind her of the plan.
Not yet.
Kill him,she growls. Kill him now.
Wait.
I do not wish to wait. We have waited long enough.
I know, my sister. We have waited a lifetime but if we kill him now, we will most definitely not be getting out of this place alive, and if that happens we won't be able to warn our mate.
She stops, her fangs inches from Kentworth's throat. Our mate.
Yes, our mate. We need to get out so we can warn him, so we can save him, and see him again.
My wolf howls loud enough to undoubtedly alert the guards of what's going on, then in the blink of an eye, she drags Kentworth off the desk and throws him across the room. And the old piece of garbage hits the wall with a satisfying thud then slumps against it, a thin trail of blood running down his temple.
Good.
Out cold, just like I need him to be.
Now, you remember what happens next, right?I ask as we look around the room.
My wolf snorts.I am not stupid. We wait for the guards, attack them, and follow the same path as before. No one is to be left standing.
Exactly. Don't kill anyone but the guards, and only if you have to. Leave the nurses and orderlies relatively unharmed. We just need to focus on getting out.
My wolf almost nods then starts pacing in front of the door, growling low and baring her fangs, and the minute we hear the click of the locks, her hackles raise.
