I'm big for a wolf in all forms, and I am definitely strong as fuck. I also might have gotten a little psychic in terms of my nightmares and that seems to be more specific to Lark, but having the knowledge that comes with beingthattype of Alpha? Yeah, I don’t think that’s really my thing.
At least, not that I'm aware of.
"And what exactly doyourAlpha's eyes look like?" I smirk down at my mate because she can't possibly mean I somehow look different and she’s probably just trying to get some sort of rise out of me.
My Birdie taps under my eye again. "Like these.” Then she smiles with a heavy layer of pride mixing with her beauty. "Warm whisky with spirals of gold, a hint of blue… and all wolf."
"All wolf?"
A subtle nod.
"My eyes are all wolf? Like, like when I am my wolf, but right now?"
Another nod.
"You're full of shit.” Because that is unheard of. Like I said, we can change when we mate our fated one, have the potential to physically change and gain some extra superpowers, but never once in any of the stories my parents or grandparents told me as a pup did they include an Alpha who has the eyes of a wolf at all times, even in human form. That’s impossible.
Lark huffs out a frustrated grunt, pushes up on a shaky arm and pins me with her stare. "Your eyeballs are all wolf, Colton, and if you don't want to believe me then go look in the mirror."
"Fine, I believe you."
I chuckle as my mate gives me an exaggerated eye roll. "You just don't want to get up. I still feel your disbelief, and I can hear some of your thoughts regardless of how tired I am.”
"No, I don’t.” I wrap my arms around her tighter and try to pull her back down to me. "I want to lay in bed naked with you just like this until we both have the strength to go at it again. I need to make love to my mate properly, after all. As much as I enjoyed seeing you through your heat, there are things I want to do to you that it didn't allow for.” And I don't want to look in the mirror to find out Lark is right, which I know she is. I feel like if my eyes are all wolf like she says, it could somehow be connected to theotherand I don't want to deal with that shit right now.
"Such a romantic.” Lark smirks as she leans down to kiss me nice and fucking slow as she smiles into it. "Aproperromantic."
"I'll proper romantic you,” I growl and capture her lips in a far more aggressive kiss, palming the back of her head to keep kissing her, and just when I feel like I may have the energy to show her howproperly romanticI can be, my front door is kicked wide open.
"Goddamnit, wolf!" Zan booms as he comes marching into my one room cabin. "Do you have any idea how distraught I have been these last five days!"
I roll my eyes and glance at Lark, my mate giggling into my chest hair. "I've been a little busy, so no."
"Bah!" He waves his hand through the air as he strolls to the bed, not slowing down or stopping until he climbs onto the frame and stands over Birdie and I—both of us totally exposed and naked as the day we were born. "I am aware of yourbusy. Your Lark's heat had Frankie and I screwing like rabbits the last few days, and I can only assume my precious gem is pregnant again because I've not seen them in just as long. The only reason I'm not barging into their house is one,ew gross, and two, Cora managed to text me periodically through this madness."
"That was two reasons.” Lark rolls slightly to look up at Zan, still managing to keep the majority of her body and my dick shielded from the pervert with no boundaries. Not that she needs to do any of that for multiple reasons I need to make her aware of, but it’s the thought that counts and I’ll explain everything later.
Zan grins down at us like the asshole he is. "I suppose it was, though they are both relevant. Walking in on the two of you like this is far more enjoyable than walking in on my sister and thevampyr, which I have done enough to know they are disgusting.” He gags—twice—before parking his hands on his hips and scowling. "Why did you not text?"
My eyes damn near roll right out of my head, but my mate answers for us. "Colton has been balls deep inside me for the better part of four days. The thought didn't really occur to either of us, and quite frankly, I doubt it would have been very easy to do since his hands were generally just as occupied."
"Crass female.” Zan's amethyst eyes dance with approval. "I love it. But I will have to disagree. I have managed to text the wolf while gagged, blindfolded and bound to a table completely at my mate’s mercy. If I can do that, the wolf could have sent up a confirmation that neither of you were dead."
"Something that wasactuallyconfirmed by the fact that you knew Lark was in heat.” I reach over to the nightstand, grab a smoke, then light up. "And since she didn't show up at your place writhing in pain, and you haven't seen me since I picked her up, you could have done the math."
"Math is for Henrich.” Zan grins down at me before it slips. "What is wrong with your eyes?"
I frown. "Nothing."
"Then why do they look like that?" He points at my face like I can see my own eyeballs, then looks to Lark. "Why are his eyes like that of his wolf?"
My mate shrugs, wiggles around a little more, flashes the demon some side boob I quickly cover with my arm that's wrapped around her, then Lark just smiles.
"So, this is not normal? Not a usual occurrence when wolves mate?"
She shakes her head as I frown harder.
Did I suddenly disappear?
