“No.”He rolls his eyes. “But having you in my life, finally being able to be with you as the gods intended and starting our life together regardless of how it starts is pretty fucking perfect to me. Plus, I kinda like the idea of watching you go full luna and fucking shit up in the name of revenge. It’s pretty hot.”
“I love you.”
“I love you, too, Birdie, and we’re only getting started. And as much as I want pups with you right now, I’d rather be sure you’re safe and not fucking shit up while pregnant. That’s not something I think either one of us could handle.”
Well, he is right about that.
It’s not really a good plan for me to go charging into Kentworth Labs while pregnant, even if it was only a few days, and Colton… good lord, if my mate is going to get all crazy and protective while I bond with his brothers, there’s no telling how unhinged he’d be ifthathappened. To be honest, my alpha would probably shift to his wolf and just stay that way until our pup was born.
“Got that right, honey. “
I giggle at that and shake my head. “Which, while I love you for it, would make certain things very difficult for us. Like all the sex you know we’ll be having thanks to the hormones, and pheromones we’ll both be throwing, and since most healers recommend not shifting past the first trimester, and you’d be stuck as your sexy wolf, that really limits us. And our wolves haven’t even gotten to reallyplayyet, don’t want to take that away from them. Or us.”
“Gods, you are fucking perfect.”
“I know, and that’s why you should listen to me. No perma-wolf if I get knocked up. I’d be very disappointed and I know a few other people that would be as well.”
“Notif,when,”Colton grunts in my head.
“Fine.”
“Say it, Birdie.WhenI knock you up.”
“Ok, fine.Whenyou knock me up.”
I roll my eyes as Colton nods firmly then Havok clears his throat next to me. “I’m sorry to interrupt what was obviously an intense telepathic conversation, but I do believe my angel and I need to put the twins down.”
“I got it,” Colt says as he slowly gets to his feet. “You can sit and flirt with my mate a little longer, but when I get back, knock that shit off.”
“Oh my gods.” Cora giggles as Vok throws his arm over my shoulders and pulls me close. “I’m telling you, it does not matter what species, all of you are alpha-holes and sometimes it drives me crazy.”
We watch Colton help Cora up and the two of them head down the hall toward the staircase, sleeping twins not even moving an inch.
“You will be fantastic parents.” Vok surprises me as he tugs me back against the couch. “K and Dizzy adore our lone wolf, and they have taken to you just as quickly. When the time comes, you two shall be wonderful in your new roles.”
“Thanks… “ I blink at him. “You aren’t able to…”
“Read minds? No.” He laughs. “My light can dig through memories, if she wishes, but neither of us possess the ability to read minds. Our intuition is unmatched though, as is that of the rest of the clan, but I believe that comes from the connections and love we all share for each other and not some ESP bullshit.”
I snort. “Cora was telling me about theface conversations.She really does not like them at all.”
“No, no, my angel absolutely hates them, even more so since her brother and the wolf fell right into them with us. But again, it is not mind reading, simply knowing each other as well as one can short of having a mind link. Not to mention, most of us prefer not to speak roughly seventy percent of the time, anyway.”
“Now I see why Colton fits right in.”
“Exactly, “ Vok chuckles. “However, my brother Andrej gives him a run for his money. Sit the two of them down in a room alone for hours and I’m sure there won’t be one word uttered for just as long. And that’s even with the incredible love and respect they have for one another.”
“I’m really glad Colton found all of you.”
“Kai would say that we found him, but the sentiment is the same. Colt has become brother to us just as easily as if he were born of our blood.”
And he really needed that. Needs it still with the way his own flesh and blood treats him.
We haven’t talked a ton about it, but my mate has shared the origin of his curse and what it’s done to his relationship with Mary and her family. I hadn’t met her before, didn’t have a chance when the Paddock’s joined our pack, but the way Alpha and Luna Paddock spoke to my parents about their son and daughter led me to believe there was a little animosity there. Not that they said as much, but it was more of something I could sense when they were asking for permission to join, and Luna Paddock seemed overly eager to make her pups sound almost perfect.
Now that I know what happened and why, I have a better understanding of their tension. Sort of, anyway, because I don’t know if I’ll ever fully understand how his ownsistercould treat my amazing mate as if he was a cursed piece of garbage. Especially after seeing him interact with Ronny, who clearly believes Colton shits rainbows and glitter.
I snort at that, which earns me an arched brow and slight nudge from Vok. “Care to share what has you giggling?”
