After the two gathered their things and said goodbye, I breathed out a sigh of relief.
Amelia eased down and crawled into my arms. I stared at her face, looking for any sign that she was upset. “I’m sorry about that,” I said, brushing my thumb across her hair.
“I love you.” She breathed into my neck. “But your ex is a horrible human and if she ever shows her face in this house again, it won’t be pretty.”
“Duly noted,” I said, pulling her in for a kiss. “In fact, I think you should just move in and stake your territory.”
Her hands paused on my chest. “Excuse me?”
“Move in with me? Help me make this house a home. If this isn’t where you want to live, we’ll look for something else.”
She tapped her lips with her finger like she was thinking it over. “Can we get a dog?”
A deep chuckle rumbled through me. “If that’s what it takes for you to say yes, then sure.”
She wrapped her arms around me and smiled. “I’m going to hold you to that, you know.”
Just the feel of her in my arms made everything else feel lighter. “Sweetheart, whatever you want. Whatever you need, it’s yours.”
