“Go fuck yourself, Jax!” I try to sound pissed off, but I’m so turned on, it comes out soft and breathless.
His wicked chuckle grows. “Later, sweetheart, I’ll even let you join in or watch. For now, though, you owe me a drink.”
His crazy ass thought process throws me. “How do I owe you a drink?”
He rolls his eyes as if he’s talking to an idiot. “For saving you from that fucking pervert.”
I scoff, dismissing him.
“I had it handled. I can look after myself.”
“Sure, you can, sweetheart. Looked like you were doing a mighty fine job of it as well.”
I grit my teeth and bite my tongue. Getting into it with him now was not the time. I didn’t need another distraction causing me to miss my contact.
Shaking my head, I swipe a hand down my face. “What are you guys doing here?”
“Maybe we wanted to check in on our little mate?”
Narrowing my eyes, I spot the lie a mile away. Both still shit liars too. They never could keep much from me as kids.
Jax and Luka share a look.
“We did want to see you, it just happened to coincide with another little meet.” Jax shrugs like he just mentioned the weather. What other little meet? I’m about to ask when Jax smiles, looking anything but innocent.
“Besides, we have… unfinished business.”
Uh-huh. Not happening. Nope. “I thought we agreed to stay away from one another?”
I didn’t have time for this. I couldn’t risk scaring off my contact all because these idiots wanted to run after some crazy scheme they had planned.
“We agreed to no such thing,” a deep husky voice says from behind us, making me freeze.
CHAPTER 9
Kai strolls up to us, followed by Rion and a grouchy looking Axel. His scowl deepens spotting me, his eyes dragging down my body.
“Fucking hell,” he murmurs avoiding any further eye contact. Fine by me. I needed to get away from them anyway.
Kai leans into me.
“None of us agreed to stay away. No matter how much you hate it, you’re our mate and we’re going nowhere.”
I swallow trying to form words past the lump in my throat.
They were the ones better off without me. I would bring them nothing but pain and suffering. They deserved far better than anything I could give them.
“It’s for the best.”
Jax steps forward, his eyes ablaze in fury and pain. “Whose best? Because from where I’m standing it’s only been about whatyouwant.”
“Jax, that’s not—
Luka grabs his shoulder, but he shakes it off, sending me a wounded look full of frustration.
Luka looks at me, shaking his head before focusing on Jax. “Come on, let’s go get you that drink.”
Jax gives me one last pained look full of longing before heading to the bar with Luka.
