“I’m serious.”
“So am I,” I say walking toward him then pushing him out the door so we can get this over with. I glance around to be sure there isn’t an audience. When I think it’s good, I speed walk to his truck.
“I’m not kidding, Shay. I don't want to get into a fight tonight.”
That stops me.
“Why would you get in a fight tonight?”
“Don’t play dumb,” he says and opens the passenger door for me.
“I’m not.” I climb in and watch him walk around the hood. As soon as he opens his door, I ask, “Why would you get in a fight tonight?”
He shakes his head and starts the car.
“Because I’m not an idiot or blind. If I were the guy meeting you for this date and you walked in looking the way you do right now, let’s just say I wouldn’t be about to let another man even set his eyes on you. You’d be mine and mine only. So yeah, this guy better not be a douche.”
“Oh” is all I say before we are suddenly turning onto Main Street.
I duck down so fast that Luca flinches.
“What the fuck are you doing?”
“I don't want anyone to see me with you,” I say quickly and then look away from his face.
Hell, I have to.
What Luca just said … wow.
Possessive Luca. I like it.
CHAPTER TEN
LUCA
I haven’t punched anyone since my junior year of high school when Barney Evens started a cheap rumor about my little sister Ruby, but I’m pretty sure it’s like riding a bike.
It’ll all come back to me when the moment arises.
But fuck, I hope it doesn’t. Actually, I'm sort of hoping that her date stands her up.
Fuck. I feel shitty for thinking that way, but wow.
I steal another glance at Shay as we pull into Wind Valley.
Shay’s always been pretty, and I’ve noticed as her curves have made themselves more visible over the years, but I always knew how to leave it at that, just looking. Maybe a sexual innuendo in a conversation here and there, but nothing serious.
Even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t stand a chance in her eyes, and her family’s distaste for me would make it impossible, but tonight, when I stepped into her living room, it was like I was seeing a side of Shay I’m not supposed to see. The side that wants to tempt me to change our entire relationship.
I’m not just saying she looks hot. Shay looks absolutely stunning tonight. Gorgeous isn’t even a good enough word for her. She looks … like I never want to look away.
Fuck.
FUCK.
“So where am I dropping you off?”
I mean for the question to be considerate, but I’m pretty sure I growled by the last word. And I don't growl for anyone. Ever.
