I know what I should do, but I’m not certain that I’m going to do it…
Grinning with sudden bravado, I slide my hand into his.
No adventure is ever told by running away from a story. It’s told while running toward it.
Let’s see where this story leads.
* * *
Imust be losing my damn mind.
How the hell can no one else see this woman except me?
Maybe I have been in the sun too long.
The moment Aeris’s hand glides across my own, it’s as if heaven crosses my path. Her skin is soft, and surprisingly cool to the touch. Being this close, I see her golden eyes have soft specks of amber and brown scattered throughout them.
“Are you sure you’re all right?” I ask once more, wanting to be certain.
She nods. “Yes, I’m okay,” she says. Her voice flows like music from a song I could listen to for the rest of my life. Her lips are full, luscious, and kissable.
I fight a groan when I catch her swiping her tongue along her bottom lip.
To be whatever she is tasting in that moment… fuck me.
She giggles as she regards me curiously. “What was that?”
Ahh, fuck. I said that shit out loud?
“Umm, nothing,” I lie. “Come on, let me get you out of here, and us off the road. I’m creating a spectacle, and if I’m not careful, someone will call the police onme. That would be embarrassing as hell. Would you come with me for a ride?”
Her eyes widen slightly.Shit! She might try to run again. I can’t blame her; she doesn’t know me from anyone else here. And I’m the only person who can see her.
What the hell is going on? What is she? Is she really here?
Callum, you’re talking to a woman only you can fucking see.
Am I losing my fucking mind?
Something about her… I have to figure this out.
“Tell you what,” I start, hoping to put her at ease. “I have a friend who has a farm. We can head over if you want to just walk around and talk. How’s that sound?”
Looking directly at her, my eyes take in every detail of her face. I continue, “It’s out in the open and you can leave any time you like. You say the word, and I’ll immediately take you wherever you want to go.” I hesitate before saying, “I have questions, Aeris.”
I do have questions. So many questions. And I need the answers.
This has absolutely nothing to do with my attraction to her. But I am so damn attracted!
This woman is well above what I call my standard.
There’s no way she doesn’t have a guy back home. Hell, she’s probably fucking married.
I take a quick glance at her left hand but don’t see a ring. Not that it means much these days, but it’s a start.
“How about it?” I ask, almost begging at this point. “Come with me? I’ve never met anyone like you, and I’d love a chance to just talk.” She hasn’t said a word.
“Get the fuck off the road, man,” a guy yells from one of the cars behind us, causing both of us to jump.
