I pushed my sweatpants down.

But only an inch.

He was so busy watching, he didn’t see my next move coming.

I got him in a headlock.

“Jasper!” he roared.

I shifted my grip, bent him over, and leaned down to say in his ear, “Do I have your attention, detective?”

“You’re going to have my boot up your arse if you don’t cut this shit out,” he snarled.

“I’d rather you put something else up there,” I told him. “But that sounds fun, too.”

“Oh my god.” He choked out a furious laugh. “Jasper.”

I let him up.

He straightened. His hair was mussed, his cheeks were red, and his eyes were bright. I honestly couldn’t tell if he wanted to kiss me or kill me.

“Nowthat,” he said. “Counts as assaulting a police officer.”

“Yeah?” I said.

He stepped into my space. “Yeah.”

“You’re not going to arrest me for it.”

“Why is that? Do you think you’re special? Do you think I’m going to give you a free pass?”

“Wouldn’t be the first time,” I said casually.

“That’s a fucking lie,” he said, poking a finger in my chest.

Wow. This was my new favourite thing. Baiting Liam. “Um, no. You tried to arrest me when we first met. Adam talked you down.”

“Adam didn’t, my supervising officer did. I was all for arresting you little brats. She wouldn’t let me.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “I don’t believe you. I think you didn’t do it because you were scared of Mrs Blake.”

“I am not afraid of my Aunt Ellen,” he ground out.

I pulled a disbelieving face. “None of that matters anyway. You still won’t arrest me.”

Liam bit his lip and dragged it out slowly between his teeth. “Don’t test me, Jasper.”

Oh, I was going to test him. And poke him. And get him all riled up.

This wasamazing. I’d been trying to get his attention for years.

Who knew all I had to do was take my shirt off and insult him to his face?

It wasn’t the sophisticated seduction I thought a man like him would need, but pissing people off was very much within my area of expertise, and I was on a roll.

“You’re a raging egomaniac, Liam Nash.”
