"I can definitely relate. Well, look, we haven't seen each other in months and this is probably the only time we'll both have free in a while. Next year is looking crazy for me, a lot of traveling, committing to personal plans as you can imagine."
"I hear that," I replied.
"And honestly, I miss you, homie. Been having so many conversations about pilot TV scripts, casting calls, hair products, and lip gloss with wifey. I desperately need a masculine conversation in person for real."
I chuckled at that.
"So what do you say?"
"You sure wifey won't mind—"
"Not at all," Zyair interjected. "You know she'd be happy to have you join us. Like me, I'm sure she'll want to catch up with whatever is new with you, Mr. Senior Director of A&R."
I smiled while nodding. "All right, you've convinced me. I'll be there. Same place?"
"As always," he answered with so much pep in his voice, I could feel his radiant energy through the phone. "We'll see you when you get here."
The second I ended the call with my friend, I leaned back and ran my hand down my beard in thought. A quick inventory of what I'd packed made changing my plans doable. Besides linen shorts, tops, and swim trunks, I'd folded at least three sweaters and two jeans to pick through for my return flight from Anguilla. Those items were enough to carry me through the weekend if I decided Colorado would be my destination for the holidays for real. And why wouldn't it be? Zyair was right, we hadn't seen each other in months. Now would be an ideal time to catch up.
I picked up the phone beside me used to contact the flight attendant and the pilot.
"Yes," I spoke into the line. "There's been a change in plans; we're heading to Aspen, Colorado instead."
