"Like I need air," I replied.
Two tears fell from each of her eyes.
"We are an uncontainable flame. I needed the time apart to see that, and the moment I saw you again at Journee and Zyair's wedding last year, I knew I wanted you back. But I didn't want to be selfish and not come correct and give you what you were expecting. Then last Christmas happened, and I just knew where my joy, where my home really was... with you."
Maven tucked her lips into her mouth, then bit down on her bottom lip before releasing it.
"Maven Young," I started, opening the ring box and plucking the ring out of the box's slit.
She gasped. "Oh my goodness..."
"Will you do me the honor of being my wife? Will you marry me?"
She leaned inward and bobbled her head several times before any words materialized.
My amusement at that crinkled the corners of my eyes.
"Yes," she finally answered. "I will."
I slid the ring down her ring finger, watching as the pear-shaped halo diamond lit her hand up. As I stood up off my knee, Maven jumped into my arms, wrapping her legs around my waist and her forearms around the back of my neck.
"Kai, I love you so much."
"And I love you more. Merry Christmas, beautiful."
Maven pressed her lips firm against mine and whispered, "Merry Christmas."
THE END.
