When we wrap, I take a look at the footage to check the lighting and angles and make sure we’ve got everything we need. Because Harper’s been holding the phone, I end up in some of the shots—half-visible, off to the side, reacting, prompting, teasing.
And I’m…there. On-screen. Laughing, talking, even blushing a little.
“You should keep that in,” Finn says, standing close and leaning over my shoulder. “The part with you in it.”
I hesitate. “I don’t know—people follow the team. They want to see the players, not me.”
“They want to see what’sreal,” he says. “And you’re part of this now. They love it. You’ll see.”
He’s not wrong. We upload the edited clip that night, and by morning, it’s blowing up.
Alright, so maybeblowing upis an understatement. It’s actually the best-performing post Alderbridge RFC has ever had.
(I know this because I made a chart.)
Evie emails me at 7:02 a.m. with the subject line:This is why I hired you.
I feel good—for all of five minutes. Maybe six.
Because then I commit the cardinal sin:
I check the comments.
I know better. It’s social media 101: never read the comments unless you're emotionally armored—or at least holding a pastry.
But the videos have all been getting great feedback. No trolls, no drama—just people hyping up the players and sharing funny reaction GIFs.
This one’s different.
It starts the same:
Love this!
Omg Frankie’s laugh is so cute.
Where can I sign up to be a media omega, asking for a friend.
JEALOUS. I want this job yesterday.
She’s so natural on camera. Love seeing the team through her lens.
And then—
Oh look, another omega trying to thirst trap her way to a full-bond pack.
Not here for the media girl making it about herself.
Why is she in the video?? This isn’t OnlyFans.
My stomach sinks.
It’s only three comments out of literally hundreds, but they land hard.
It shouldn’t get to me. It’s not even original. I’ve seen those words copy-pasted across every female-led post on the internet. Still—this feels different.
It feelspersonal.
Which is stupid, because it’s social media, and people on there can beweird,to say the least.
