Get it together, Delilah, you could have been in real danger here.
I rubbed my hand down my face and felt my nose. It was wet.
What the?
“I hope she likes a wet nose near her hot cunt. Because I would be happy to slip my long tongue right in to that slick, narrow—”
“Who’s there!?” I shouted out in shock and instinctively grabbed the pillow to create a barrier.
My heart thumped rapidly, my breath coming in short, panicked gasps.
“Please do not be frightened, my mate. It is only me, your Puppy. I am just now in my more handsome, less wet blanket, less constipated looking form.”
“What?” I whispered, half giggling.
A massive wolf slowly traversed the circumference of the bed. He placed himself in the shadows behind various pieces of furniture, and when he stood at his full height, he was significantly bigger than any wolf or dog that I had ever seen. His body was coal black, and the top of his head had a generous amount of hair, which resembled the mohawk Hawke had.
He moved with a certain grace and dignity that was undeniably regal. The beast maintained a strong posture, its head held high, and its eyes narrowed as it faced me directly.
My heart raced as my eyes followed his graceful strides toward me, and my mouth went dry. He was massive and had fangs longer than the typical wolf you would see in the wild. I reached out my hand, and he leaned forward. As I felt the muscles beneath the fur of this beast, I was filled with awe at its sheer power.
But then I swore I saw a smile. It was small, a hint of white teeth showing. When I finally recognized who this was, I felt a sense of familiarity and warmth. It really was Puppy, but it was also Hawke.
I grinned, reaching out my hand to pet the fur on his head, but instead Puppy spread his front legs and leaned to the floor and raised his butt high in the air. His tail waved wildly to and fro like a puppy waiting on a treat.
I cocked my head, my hand still hovering in the air waiting to see what he was going to do next.
He was acting so proper, so tame just a minute ago, and now he looked like he was ready to fetch an imaginary ball.
“He’s a silly one,” the voice snorted inside me. “Have you not figured that out yet?”
“Of course I have,” I replied. “His beauty caught me off guard.”
“Ha! She thinks I’m beautiful!” Puppy threw his head back, yowling in a Husky whine and wagged his tail excitedly. He rolled on his back, then got back to his feet and hopped around the room, doing zoomies until he ran into the kitchen oven.
“Fuck! Who put that there?”He shook his head, tripping over his legs until he fell over.
I let go of the pillow as I laughed, falling over into the mess of blankets.
Chapter Thirty-Three
Hawke
Hemadeafoolof himself, rolling on the floor and making her scratch our belly like we were a common house dog on the floor.
Our leg thumped the floor, when she foundthatspot that felt too damn good to resist.
“Such a good boy you are, yes you are!” Delilah cooed as she ran her fingers through our fur.
“Yes, I’m a good boy, such a good boy.”His tongue lolled out of his mouth, his sharp teeth not in the slightest ferocious looking.“Pet me more, pet me more.”
She threw her head back, laughing and smiling like the Delilah I had always known. Carefree, happy to be alive, but this time there was a sparkle in her eye that shone brighter.
“She’s happy, truly happy now,”my wolf said to me. “All because she has us now.”Delilah curled up next to our large wolf body on the bed, snuggling closer.
Her head nuzzled into our neck, taking big, deep breaths.
“She will be even happier when we destroy her past. Killing Shane will only be part of it. We will take down his entire empire. You’ve seen the glimpses into her mind. She has suffered much more than she has let on.”
