He pulled me to his chest, his shaft already hard against my thigh. I could already feel the burn between my legs, my nipples aching to be sucked.

“Sunshine, I’ve known you loved me. I’ve always loved you, but I was too stubborn to admit it. But I’m never letting you go. You understand me? Never. You’re my mate and nothing is going to rip us apart. And while our heat and rut are going on, I will fuck you until you realize I’m not going anywhere.”

I laughed loudly, quite un-lady like, and he rolled on top of me, planting kisses all over my cheeks, my chest, and down my body.

Chapter Thirty-One

Delilah

Afterfourdaysofnever leaving the bedroom, our sex craze simmered. But that didn’t stop the lust we still had for each other. I was ready to stretch my legs, to feel the sun on my face, but it took another two days to find the motivation.

Part of me worried Shane was lurking around the corner, and the other part didn’t want to leave the bubble of paradise that we’d created for ourselves. I guess having food brought to us three times a day, being completely naked and screwing around was nice, but I missed the sunshine.

It wasn’t until day seven when we emerged that my ears bled. My sensitivity to sound had heightened tenfold and Hawke rushed me down to the shop where Bram was burning a bundle of herbs and spices on the counter while flipping through a large book.

Hawke sat me on the counter next to the fire burning on the fire resistant plate and pointed to my ear, and Bram rolled his eyes.

“Yes, Hawke, it is normal.” Bram closed the book. “But you already knew that. You have seen it before with Journey. Why are you bringing her down here now?”

“I-I needed a second opinion! What if I’m wrong? There isn’t as much blood as when Journey’s ears bled. What if she won’t fully shift? What if she won’t shift at all?”

Hawke’s body shook, I could also feel his panic through the bond we now shared.

I cleared my throat, touching my ear. It was barely a drop, maybe comparable to someone getting their ears pierced. “I’m not in any pain.”

I gently grabbed Hawke’s forearm, which flexed under my touch. He wrapped his arm around my waist and laid his head on my chest.

Bram chuckled, pulling out a rolled up parchment from his robe. These past few days he had brought us food, his face was different. He didn’t have the handle-bar mustache, but instead had a short salt and peppered beard. He also had kind eyes.

But even that wasn’t his true form. Hawke mentioned that witches and warlocks would never show what they truly looked like or tell their true name, only to their mate.

“Because Delilah isn’t like Journey. Journey was gifted a wolf. Delilah somehow had a wolf inside her all along, and it‘s laid dormant. Her fangs and the urge to bite you gave that away. Whether she inherited it from a relative, or it was buried in her soul, is the genuine question.”

The voice inside me hummed contentedly. She wasn’t saying anything or volunteering any information.

“Have you heard any strange voices?” Bram cocked his eyebrow.

I licked my lips, Hawke already nodding.

“Yes, she does. She said she’s heard them before.”

“I can speak, you know!” I snapped. “If I’m going to be talking about crazy things in my head, I should be the one to voice it.”

Hawke’s fear morphed into worry. “Dede, I didn’t mean to upset you, I just—”

Bram waved him off. “It’s quite adorable how sappy newly mated couples get. I can’t wait to get mine.” He gave a soft smile. “Anything else peculiar?”

I rubbed my stomach, which was getting weird butterflies in it. “I get a weird feeling in my stomach sometimes when I am about to make a wrong decision, or I’m going to be in danger.”

Bram hummed, acknowledging what Delilah had said.

But that couldn’t be right, because I was sitting inside the shop with Bram and Hawke. I was in the safest place I could be. Away from the town getting ready for Christmas, away from Shane.

Bram told us days ago, the black sedans had departed, and Shane was nowhere to be found. Even the restaurant owner was still in one piece, which was surprising. Shane had no patience for insolence.

“Hawke, your mate is fine. Let me see if any of my texts have any information about gaining their wolf’s voice before their shift. Delilah, can you talk to her whenever you want?”

I shook my head. “No, she talks and answers me only when she wants to.”
