“Hello?” I said in a breathy moan. It was right when Anaki slipped his tongue right over my clit.
Naughty dragon. I slapped my hand over his naked butt and he squeaked and pulled away.
“Hey, sorry I haven’t called,” Emm began.
Not that I cared that she hadn’t called. Anaki had told me why Emm didn’t call. Emm and Locke were mating just like we were, and more than likely, she was in heat. Warm blooded animals go into heat, and had ruts where they have uncontrollable sexual desires to fuck.
Which was hot.
Journey was the first human to transform into a wolf in the club. She experienced a nesting period where her body was slowly changing. So far I haven’t had those instincts—yet.
Dragons do have heats and ruts, but since I am a human about to change into a dragon, there will be complications. Since the goddess has willed this to take place, I’m putting trust in her. Something I’m not sure is wise or not, but I don’t have a choice. I’m scared to death about the change, even more scared that I will have animal instincts.
Rutting, heat, nesting, falling pregnant. Having a baby with Anaki—that is something I wanted. The way he got so excited at the mention of another child, and he already loved Luis. I could feel it between us already.
I cleared my throat. “So, how have you been?” I prodded. “Has anything interesting happened to you in the past few days? I bet it has been—exciting.” Anaki snorted in my lap and kissed my stomach.
“Yeah, it’s been something. I have something to tell you.”
“No, no, no. Let me guess!” I said giddily. “You stopped pursuing Locke as a bounty and fucked him into oblivion. In the forest, no less.” I raised my finger and pointed at her invisible self like she was in front of me.
She was silent.
This was too good.
“And, and,” I screamed excitedly, “you took that big nasty knot and let him come all up in you raw.”
Anaki gasped and bit my leg to cover his laugh. “Mama, what are you doing?” he nuzzled into my thigh.
“Elena!” she screamed. “How the hell?”
I cackled. “Emmie, I am fine! Just a headache, though. So are Luis and Abuela. We are all doing great. Better than ever.”
“Then, how did you know? About a knot? How—”
I continued to laugh hysterically. “I’m sorry. It’s just that I’ve never been so happy for you. Have you bitten him, yet?”
I ran my fingers through Anaki’s hair. He was smiling up at me. I’ve never felt so loved before. This never felt so right, so inevitably right I just had to let go and let it happen. Why did I fight so much?
“Elena, what’s going on?” Emm growled into the phone.
“All the things Abuela told us as children are coming true, Emmie. We have soul mates. I’m just so happy for you. That you are letting this happen.” I could almost hear the wheels turning in her head.
“But you guys are still in Venezuela. Our family is apart, and now that I am with Locke, I can’t leave. I don’t know how I’m going to get you all out of there. I’ll raise the money. I’ll work at the bar here in town. I’m not hunting or doing bounties.”
I was silent for a long while. Emm was always unapologetic. She was brash, thought of herself, and did what she thought was necessary for the family. This was her way of showing love. No matter what I said or did, she would never really listen. It was her way of showing love. She would hurt or kill anyone who stepped in the way of us. No remorse. “Emmie, are you feeling guilty?”
“Yes. And I think that was why I haven’t bitten Locke, yet, to complete the madness.”
“It’s so hot. You should have done it already,” I whispered.
“You act like you know everything that has happened to me!” Emm snapped. “Do you know about wolves, knots, biting, where have you—wait. Like you have been through it?”
I rolled my lips inward and bit them. I guess I wasn’t really supposed to tell her yet. I just got so excited. Does this mean Locke was going to kick my ass? I really doubted it.
“Where the fuck are you?” she screamed into the phone. I pulled it awayand squinted my eyes.
I smacked my lips. “I can’t tell you that right now. You are in the middle of your mating thing, and you are in heat. Which—let me tell you—”
