Page 34 of 14 Night Tryst

“Savi?” Frowning I turn her to face me and when I see her cheeks stained with tears my gut clenches. “Hey, what’s wrong, sweetheart?” I question, taking her face into my hands and brushing away the fresh tears that stream down her cheeks.

“It’s nothing,” she sniffles, shaking her head. “I promise, I’m fine, this whole experience is just so stunning it’s really difficult to not feel overwhelmed.” She expresses with a watery smile. “These past four days you’ve made me feel so special. And before I met you, I never knew what it meant to feel wanted and appreciated because no one has ever put together a picnic in a park for me let alone a romantic gesture like this.” My chest constricts again, and I feel that ache growing until it forms a lump in my throat. “Just shows that I’ve wasted four years of my life putting all my effort into the wrong type of guys.”

I nod and tilt her head back a touch so I can gaze lengthily into her amber eyes, which look even brighter in contrast of the sunlight. “No one understands that more than I do, Wildfire. I wasted the best years of my life with April—years I only wish I could take back, but what I’ve learned is that dwelling and holding on to past mistakes will only hold you back and if you allow it to it will become the blueprint of your future.” Wordlessly, Savi nods and rests her hands on my chest. “You’re truly a very special girl, Savannah West and don’t you ever let another asshole make you feel otherwise.” I grip her chin between my thumb and forefinger and fix her with a playful glare. “Understand?”

“I won’t, I promise.”

“Good girl.” Savi pushes up on her toes and circles her arms around my neck and draws me in for a long and passionate kiss that turns my old man knees to jelly. After the balloon ride, we spent our last nine hours in Cappadocia sightseeing, hiking through the caves. We enjoyed some Turkish street food and Savi wandered around the market, dragging me from stall to stall buying souvenirs for her friends back home. After lunch we head out for a two-hour quad bike tour and we sit at the top of a cave, with her enveloped in my arms and watch as the sun slowly sets around the scenic caves.

“Couldn’t you just stay here forever?” Savi sighs, her eyes closing when I press a lingering kiss to her temple. “Shall we just stay?” she suggests, tilting her head back to look at me.

I would in a heartbeat if it means I get to keep her. “Sure, why not.” I smile down into her upturned face. “I can see myself living here. I’ll set up a small construction start-up in one of those caves over there. Who needs a twenty-story building anyway?”

Savi sniggers, “Mm, and I can start my own event company and plan weddings for the locals or evening festivities for the tourists that are visiting, perhaps boost the towns economy,” she says airily while lifting my hand and idly playing with my fingers. We sit there for over an hour talking until the sun completely disappears and the sky is lit up with stars.

Savi’s soft moans while I kiss her slow and deep hang in the air between us. It isn’t till we draw apart that we see we are surrounded by fireflies.

“Wow, Savi, look.” Her eyes flutter open, and she sits upright when she notices the green glow encompassing us.

“Oh, my goodness.” Savi gasps, “Fireflies! I didn’t even know they had them here.”

“It’s the perfect end to a memorable trip.”

Savi turns to look at me and smiles warmly, her eyes aglow. “I couldn’t agree more. I won’t ever forget this trip.”

Reaching out I skim my thumb along her jaw and tuck her hair behind her ear. “Me either.” I affirm and lean in to kiss her. We share one last extensive kiss, drawing out every second before we need to leave and head back to the plane and fly back to California… back to reality.

I’m not sure how I’m going to feel after I drive her back to her apartment. I’ve gotten so used to having her around, falling asleep with her in my arms and the addictive scent of her shampoo and sweet notes of her perfume imbued into my senses.

Christ almighty, I’m not loving the idea of going back home to an empty house and crawling into that cold and empty bed.

These last fourteen hours with her feels bittersweet and the harder I’m praying for time to slow, as if defying me, every hour is purposely ticking by like minutes. We spend the duration of the flight talking and attempting to watch a movie together. I couldn’t even tell you what movie we’re watching, because five minutes into it we’re up on top of each other, kissing and grinding against each other like two sex crazed teenagers.

Before I knew it the wheels of the plane touch down in California and soon after we’re pulling up outside her apartment building.

Just like that the best four days I’ve had in the past two decades is over. Savi and I turn to look at one another as the car rolls to a stop. “Home sweet home.” She drawls with a faint smile, one that doesn’t reach her eyes while she lifts her gaze to look up at the building. “No one’s seen us. Shall we just go back?” she pouts.

Despite the heaviness in my chest, I force a smile on my face and sigh, “If that were an option, I would in a heartbeat, Wildfire.” Savi drops her gaze to our hands still laced together between us. The driver looks back at me through the rear-view mirror and I silently signal with my head for him to leave us and he opens the door and steps out to retrieve Savi’s suitcase out of the boot.

“Thank you again for everything, Logan. Especially for convincing me to take the job and join you on the trip.” She says and stops to lick her lips before she continues. “It’s truly been the best experience of my life.”

“Mine too,” I sigh and shift so I can face her properly. “I’ve been to that city many times before and each time I loved it for different reasons, but this time around, I got to experience it in a different manner all together and sharing it with you made it all the more special to me, Savannah.” I affirm and lift her hand clasped in mine and brush a kiss to her knuckles. “Thank you for joining me and putting together a phenomenal dinner. You honestly are a brilliant event planner, and I have no doubt that very soon it will be your name circulating amongst elite instead of Suzan’s.”

Savi laughs softly and shakes her head, “Gosh, I have some way to go before I can even dream of reaching her level of success. Suzan may be arrogant and a bona fide bitch at times, but she’s earned the right to be after pouring her heart and soul into her work and building not only her company but her reputation from the ground up. I’ve learned a lot from her.”

Heart and soul?

Fuck. Is that the story she’s spinning to people? Because I know differently. April told me she couldn’t even get a business loan and had to beg her father for the capital—not that I’ll divulge that information to Savi and tarnish the image of someone she clearly respects and considers an idol. In my opinion, within the next year or two Savi will be ten times the event planner she is.

Brushing a strand of her golden hair away from her eyes I tuck it behind her ear so I can see that pretty face. “Great accomplishments stem from great aspirations, and you’ve got an abundance of that Wildfire. Your drive and passion for your work will take you where you need to be. Mark my words, come next year you’ll be well on your way to starting your own company.”

Savi leans into my hand and smiles adoringly, “I’m not in any rush. Those who leap before they can walk crash the hardest. Above that, I believe that great things take time, so you either be patient and wait or you rush and settle for less and I have no intention to settle for less.” She explains with a shrug. “Not anymore.”

“Atta girl,” I rasp, stoking her jaw with my thumb while I gaze longingly into her eyes. “You’re destined for greatness, Savannah West.”

“Be sure to remember those words when I send you my invoice in the morning, Mr Peirce.” She croons teasingly, puckering up her lips and kissing my thumb when I brush it over her lower hip.

“I told you, you’re worth every cent.” I assert, brushing her lips apart with mine and just as I’m about to dive in and kiss her the sound of my cell phone ringing interrupts the moment. “Fuck.” I utter, pressing my forehead to hers.
