Although Sinjin kept his voice low, Brandon didn’t appear too thrilled to see him. But I supposed he was like the rest of us and probably didn’t want his breakfast interrupted. A few moments later, Sinjin came back over to our table and sat down, not looking the least bit happier.
“Is everything okay?” I asked.
“Yes, everything is fine. Just Brandon being Brandon.” It couldn’t be easy to work for someone like Brandon Lowenstein. Leaving all the important decisions to Sinjin. Futures wasn’t Sinjin’s company and I knew my man felt the pressure of that.
I looked back over the table where the Lowensteins sat and noticed them both staring over at us. I raised my hand, waving to Meredith, and she looked away. Sinjin then glanced over at their table and then back to me, scowling.
“I’ve met Meredith before,” I said. “Only the once. She probably doesn’t remember me.”
“What’s on the agenda for today?” he asked.
“Well, it’s jumpsuits and tuxedos. The women are supposed to meet in Dion’s room so he can do our hair for the occasion. I’m so excited to see Kami. Then we take the boat over, hike up the monument till we reach the top, they have their ceremony and then I think she said were having a dinner back here on the mainland afterward.”
After we finished, we rode the elevator back upstairs. I took off the T-shirt I was wearing, putting a robe on instead to keep from ruining my hair before the wind got the chance to. Making my way to the door, I got an idea. “Sinjin?”
“What you need, sweetheart?”
“We have so much space. Would you mind if I brought them up here to our room for hair and makeup?”
“Not at all. I think it’s a great idea.”
“Okay then I’m gonna make my phone calls.” After quick ones to Dion and Kami, I learned that Meredith had been faster coming up with that idea. We were all supposed to meet in her suite. I kissed Sinjin before walking out the door and headed for the presidential suite. And I thoughtourroom was nice. You could fit a family of twelve in the penthouse.
Since I was the lowest on the totem pole, Dion did my hair first. Because we were going to be outside, he did an updo with natural twists and waves that could be blown around by the wind and still look gorgeous in pictures.
“Where’s Henri?” I asked while getting stuck with bobby pins.
“He’d gone downstairs to procure the bubbly and rustle us up some snacks.” Dion pointed over to the table set out with cut up fruits and cheeses. “You can take the man out of the kitchen, Geet, but only for so long. I’m guessing he’ll be wandering back here soon seeing as we have to get ready and he wants to visit with you and—is Sexy Sinjin in your room?”
“Yeah, he’s getting ready there.” I laughed at the nickname, Sexy Sinjin, knowing Sinjin would laugh about it too.
“Kams,” Dion called out. “Have you met Geet’s walking sex addiction yet?”
“No.” Kami laughed her response.
“Girl, you are missing out. I know you’ve been loved up with your own delectable, prepackaged man candy, but Mr. Sinjin Barrow is the newest wet-dreamsicle flavor, if you get my meaning.”
Wet-dreamsicle? Oh, I had to tell Sinjin about that one. As the talk went on around us, I noticed that Meredith kept quite tightlipped on the subject of Sinjin. I knew she knew him. Maybe she thought it wasn’t appropriate to discuss the divinely given assets of her husband’s second in command or maybe she didn’t find Sinjin attractive?
Either way, it wasn’t until talk moved to the wedding venue that she joined in, but not with me. “If the monument is as beautiful as this suite, then I think we’ll all be too blown away to remember we’re there for the ceremony,” I said. “Thank you, Meredith, for letting us use your place to get our hair done.” She smiled tightly at me and that was the extent of our interaction. Whoa. But this was Kami’s day and she was Kami’s friend, too. I wasn’t going to let her response sour my mood.
When Dion finished with me, I moved for him to do Meredith’s hair—the first new person since she’d met Kami to actually touch Meredith’s hair.
I sat in a chair to have my makeup professionally done by a purple-haired woman wearing glitter on her cheeks. Meredith had hired her to do our makeup for the occasion. Knowing people with money had its perks. Then, while Meredith got her makeup done, Dion worked on Kami. He was the artist, and she, his canvas.
She looked like a goddess, if a goddess had the mind to get married on top of a monument outside where it was cold and windy. Her hair was a series of ringlets and braids that he pulled back with a band at the nape of her neck. As simple as it sounded, the end result was simply breathtaking.
When he finished the work, she went to the makeup station to get hers done too. Then Dion and I, and even Meredith, jumped in to help Kami dress for her big day. She wore a wedding dress, but the same as for her bridesmaids, it was a jumpsuit appearing to have spaghetti straps. Looking closely, instead of bare skin, there was sheer netting fabric for long sleeves, no doubt made out of material that would hold body heat. Thus, keeping her from catching cold. I’d never seen anything like it andit had pockets—because everyone knew even wedding dresses needed pockets. Once we finished with Kami, I hauled my butt back down to my suite to get dressed.
Standing in only my panties and bra, pulling the jumpsuit up my legs, Sinjin walked in wearing his tux. Not one of those high school prom cummerbund-and-bowtie monstrosities. This looked tailored to fit him, black and perfect. He worked that white shirt and long, sleek, red tie, to coordinate with my jumpsuit.
My mouth dropped open when I saw him. He stared at me a beat and then in two steps he had me in his arms kissing me.
“What was that for?” I asked somewhat dizzily.
Smiling down at me, Sinjin helped me stand on steadier feet. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you look more beautiful.”
“I’m not even dressed yet.”
