Sarge
As I walk out of the kitchen, I see Greer’s fine ass swaying up to the bar. She looks at Jinx. “Seen Sarge?” she asks him before she sees me.
“Right here, baby.” I sip on my coffee as I round to the other side of the bar and walk over to her. She smiles up at me, and it’s genuine, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. It makes me nervous. Did I share too much? Too soon? It felt so good getting that burden off my chest, but now I’m wondering if I shouldn’t have held some back. “What’s up?” I ask.
“Can we…um… Can we talk somewhere private?” she asks. I go on full alert, standing at my full height to stare down at her. It’s an ingrained reaction to sniffing trouble in the air—and I smell trouble.Dammit. I clench my jaw – an annoying habit that’s caused me dental work over the years – and nod.
For this, I take her by the hand, leading her back to our room. She’s going to pull away. That’sthe trouble. She’s going to refuse me. God, I feel like a damn idiot. What was I thinking, dumping all that shit on her? Somehow, I pick up the pace when I should be slowing down to prolong the moments before she tries to crush me. No—fuck that. She’snotbreaking up with me. I don’t give a shit what she says; she’s not breaking up with me.
We’re going to talk through this. As soon as I get her into the room and shut the door, I turn on her, backing her up until she hits the wall. Then I use my hand at the back of her head to make sure she doesn’t hurt it, and crowd in, surrounding her with my entire body. I dip my face in close enough for our lips to touch.
“Listen, baby, maybe I shouldn’t have told you all the stuff I told you yesterday… but you’re not breaking up with me. I’m not letting you use it as ammunition to push me away…” Then I eliminate the minute distance between us and really press my lips to hers, using my tongue to gently pry open her mouth. She gasps, allowing me to take the kiss deeper. Her body melts against mine. She wraps her arms around my neck and I lift her from the ground. She wraps her legs around my waist, holy shit!
I walk her over to the bed, put a knee to the mattress, and lay her down. Before I know where I want to touch her, her hands begin to roam my body up and under my shirt. She moves her hands up my abs, over my chest, rounding my shoulders, and down my back. With every new touch, she moves, grinding her core against me, and I grow painfully hard.
I only just get my hands down her pants, aiming for the slick folds between her thighs, when she stops me by pushing hard at my chest.
“Wait – no.”
“The fuck you mean,no? You started this, baby.” My dick is a cement block because of her, and she’s stopping usnow? It kills me… It goes against the laws of nature…but I roll off her. I’ve never taken a woman without consent and I never plan to.
“Please… Don’t… Don’t be mad. I like where this is going, but I have something I need to talk to you about and this will make me lose focus. I can’t lose focus. It’s too important. But I…um… Once you hear what I have to say, you might not want me any longer.”
What the hell did she have to say to me? Anything short of telling me she’s in love with another man – and that wouldn’t even stop me from wanting her. I wouldn’t pursue her because I wouldn’t want her thinking about another man every time I touched her, but that wouldn’t make me want her any less.
“Woman, you better start talking now.”
She reaches up to press her hand over my mouth. “Would you shut up and listen?” With her hand pressed over my mouth, I really don’t have a choice. “First. I don’t want to break up with you. That’s not this. I’m glad you trusted me enough to share with me.”
“Then what?”
Greer sucks in a breath and looks me in the eyes. “I called my stepdad.”
I pull her hand away, holding it and the other above her head, keeping her pinned to the bed. “You didwhat?” I bark at her.
“They’re following the Lords. Their women. I can’t let anybody else get hurt. I won’t let anyone else get hurt.”
“But you’ll letyourselfget hurt?God dammit, woman.”
“No—shut up.” She sighs for a moment before explaining, “That’s why I’m telling you. I’m not running off by myself, getting mixed up in something that I can’t pull myself out of. I’ve heard the stories from Caity.”
Fuck me. I got the one woman smart enough to bring in her man? The whole reason Vlad befriended the Lords was because of those damn women running off following hairbrained schemes, rather than bringing in their men to help. He’d seen them sneaking off and couldn’t let them go off alone. That gets my attention. “So what did your stepdad have to say?”
“He said they only want the art. If I can get that to them, then they’ll leave me alone and let me live my life.”
“And you trust them?”
“Not remotely. That’s why I’m telling my man – my big, scary, former Raider, biker man. I want you to come with me.”
“Like I’d fucking let you go alone…”
“I know you wouldn’t. You wouldn’t let me, and I wouldn’t want to. I’m not stupid, Sarge.”
I know she’s not. Her brains and quick wit were what drew me to her, well, aside from her face, tits, and ass. “Where did you agree to meet?”
“I didn’t want someplace with a lot of people because there’d be no way for me to know if those were people he brought with him to hurt me. There’s only one place I’m familiar enough with that has absolutely no people. We’re supposed to meet him in Halfway, that’s Halfway, Texas at noon in three days. I bring the art, we make the exchange, and we’re supposed to go our separate ways.”
“He’s not just going to let us leave, you know?”
