“Thank you,” she says. Wow. She must be scared because she doesn’t argue. I expected her to at least put up a little bit of a fuss.
“You understand that I’m sleeping at your place, right? To be your guard, I need to stay there with you.”
“Yes,” she answers. “Dusty, do you have a pen and paper?” she asks the PA. Dusty reaches inside her pocket and pulls out a sticky notepad and a pen, handing them over to Rae. Rae scribbles something down and hands it off to me. “This is my phone number and address. I have to get home because Miss Mable, my neighbor, kept the kids for the weekend. She’s expecting me home.”
“Honey,” Dusty says, “you can’t drive home on that ankle.”
Rae shrugs. “I don’t have a choice.
Oh, fuck, is this how it’s going to go the whole time I’m guarding her?
Dusty turns to Reap. “Will you follow me up to Rae’s place? I’ll drive her car, then you can bring me back here.”
“I’m on the bike, you know,” he answers.
“That’s fine. I doubt any of you big, bad bikers want to have to ride on the back of your brothers’ bike.”
Sarge turns to Vlad. “Hold me,” he jokes. Every person in the room laughs.Asshole.
“Then let’s get her home,” Reaper says. “Someone ride along. I need to get Dusty back here to see her patients, so someone has to stay with Rae until Dark gets there with his things.”
That, Cutter volunteers for.
“I’ll probably be about a half hour, babe,” I tell Rae. She shoots me a sad smile, but it still takes my breath away. The woman acts humble, like she has no idea how hot she is. What kind of asshat let her go?
I leave them to it, heading back outside to my bike. That’s when I clock a car. Black. Sedan. Sitting in the corner of the lot. It’s backed into a spot. Slightly tinted windows. I can just make out the glint of a watch face reflecting the sun as someone bends in to change a radio station or something.
Something doesn’t sit right. I pull my phone from my pocket and dial Reap. “Miss me already?” he jokes.
“Black sedan out here. Keep an eye out when you head up to Rae’s place.”
“Bad feeling?” he asks.
“Bad feeling,” I answer. “Can’t put my finger on it. Don’t want him knowing I’m onto him. Easier to track if he stays in the same car, but just keep sharp eyes.”
“Will do. Thanks for the heads up.”
I end the call and mount my ride, casually shoving my phone back in my pocket like I don’t have a care in the world. I turn over the engine then speed out of the lot. How do I get myself into these situations? Guarding a bitch with brats. I didn’t like kids when I was one.
Once I hit the compound, the prospect on the gate lets me in. I park then stomp inside the club. Green’s sitting at the bar. “S’up, Dark?” he asks.
“Got a fucking guard assignment I need to pack for.”
“Guard assignment? So, no time for a cold one?”
I sigh. “No. Gotta get down there.”
“Who you guarding?” he asks.
“Some bitch named Rae and her kids.”
“Rae? Hot as shit, brown hair, huge tits?”
How the fuck does this turd know Rae? I don’t like it one bit. “You bang her?” I ask, and he better answer correctly or he’s about to fucking die and won’t even know the reason.
“Nah, brother, I wish. Remember that bitch I was seeing, Dela?”
“Yeah, fuck, she was hot. Why’d you dump her?”
