Agnessniffed.

“It’s not just a makeoveranymore.”

Agnes blew hernose.

“We’re bringing inRaunchMagazine.”

“I beg yourpardon?”

“We have to get Mr. Percivald to notice you, see you as an attractivewoman.”

“He didn’t see me as an attractive woman thirty years ago. How are you going to make him see me as an attractive womannow?”

“Sex.” Cynthia ignored the choked outburst from the chair. “It’s all aboutsex.”

“But sex is so…” Agnes shuddered delicately, and a picture of Walter popped into Cynthia’shead.

“Awful? It doesn’t have to be. I’ve just figured thatout.”

Agnes’s eyes popped. “You’ve just—? But you’re so, well, pardon me for saying this, but you’re sosexy!”

A little chuckle escaped Cynthia. She couldn’t help it. “Take a look at this.” And she hauled out her driver’s license. “Do you know who thisis?”

Agnes dabbed her eyes before squinting at the little photo. “Looks like me when I wasyoung.”

“It’sme.”

“Stop making fun of me when I’mmiserable.”

“I’m serious, Agnes. Look at that picture, and look at the name on the license. I got a makeover and that helped. But I got a new attitude, too.” Also some mind-blowing sex, but she didn’t want to startle her new friend too much all at once. Maybe she’d discover her own “personal orgasmic drama of legendary proportions” with the elder Mr. Percivald—who looked as if he’d be only too happy to play most of the games inRaunch’s fantasy issue—and maybe she wouldn’t. The important thing was that she’d gain enough confidence to believe it waspossible.

If Jake Wheeler found Cynthia Baxter irresistible, anything waspossible.

“Come on, Agnes. Saturday, we’re getting you a makeover along with that new hairstyle. After that, I have a…store I want you to see.” She decided not to let on it was a sex shop, or that they’d be buying a copy ofRaunch—Agnes could only take somuch.

Cynthia needed to go there, anyway; she wanted to pick up a couple of thingsherself.
