“That’s okay, I didn’t carry one of your shirts around with me everywhere I went for the better part of two months.” I kiss her lips quickly. “I love you. Now sleep, and when you wake up, we’ll try some food,” I tell her and leave her side to find the sweatpants she’s referring to.
“I love you, too.”
It takes me approximately two minutes to find the pants. By the time I pull them on and turn around, Cecilia is knocked out, quietly snoring. I watch her for a couple of seconds with a goofy smile on my face.I’ve missed this so much.
Even if we’ve been spending all our time together over the last three weeks, it still felt like something was missing or blocking our path from being us again. But this little moment we just had reminds me of how things used to be and gives me faith that things will go back to normal with time.
I pick up Cecilia’s towel from the ground, go to the bathroom to pick up my discarded clothes and towel, then put everything in the wash. I wander into the kitchen, making myself a little snack, then head back to the room, this time settling in bed beside my wife.
Where I belong.
I wake up to a trail of wet kisses along my neck. My hand reaches up and glides through Minnie’s hair. Her body is tangled with mine, leg and arm draped over me. “Good morning,” I murmur and turn my head slightly to kiss her forehead.
“Afternoon.”
“Mmm, right. How are you feeling?” I take that moment to look at her beautiful face.
“So much better. Thank you for taking care of me.” She passes her slender fingers through my hair, looking on with fascination like it’s the first time.
“I’ll always take care of you, Minnie.” I remove her hand from my hair, taking it in mine. With my other still in her hair, I tilt her head back and kiss her passionately. “Now, let’s get some food in you. You must be starving.”
“I am. Feed me, Daddy.”She’s flirting.I’m not sure what the last twenty-four hours did to her, but I’m not complaining.
I groan and untangle myself from her limbs, getting off the bed. Then I bend to kiss her protesting lips. “For real food, Cecilia.”
“You’re no fun.”
I stand to my full height, throwing my head back and laughing. “Come on, get up.” I leave her in the room and head to the kitchen to make us something to eat.
A few hours later, Emma stops by to check on Minnie and ends up staying for dinner, where I cook us some coconut shrimp and rice.
“How are things with Timmy?” I ask Emma as we sit on the couch, watching a rerun ofThe Office.
She gives me the stink eye and points her index finger at me while Cecilia sits quietly between us on the couch. “It’s Tommy, you know that. And things are going well, although I never realized that men are such pigs.” She scrunches up her nose and shakes her head.
“He’s always leaving his junk around, and when I comment on it, he claims he’s too distracted with work and that’s why he leaves things all over the place. Oh! And I swear, I find at least two pairs of dirty socks lying around every day.TWO!How is that possible!?” She makes a disgusted face and quivers out of repulsion.
But she’s right, I do know his name, I just do on purpose.
I’ve met him twice, once at our wedding and another time Minnie invited them over for dinner. Both times I hated the guy. Not that he did or said anything wrong, he just gives off an asshole vibe, and I didn’t like the way he kept checking out my wife.
“Thank God my big guy isn’t like that, or I would have kicked him to the curb quickly. He’s actually cleaner than I am,” Cecilia says, smiling up at me.
I lower to kiss her nose, then look back at Em. “What can I say, I was raised right,” I deliver with a wink that makes Emma roll her eyes.
Out of the blue, I feel little fingers reaching up and slightly pulling on my beard, then passing through it. It’s a bit thicker than I usually keep it since I’ve only beenslightly trimming it. Cecilia hasn’t made any comment about it, so I’m guessing she doesn’t mind it.
I look down and find Cecilia staring at my beard with her lips slightly parted and eyes wide. “Wow... I love this. You should always keep it like this, it feels so good through my fingers,” she says in a strange voice as if she’s amazed with my beard.
I guess that answers the question about whether she likes it or not.
Her hands then travel up my face, swiping each thumb over my eyebrows and up into my hair, scraping her nails against my scalp. It feels amazing, but I’m also a bit confused at what’s going on.
“Umm, baby? Are you feeling all right?” I ask, eyeing Emma behind her shoulder, who’s also looking quizzically at the way Cecilia is manipulating my head.
“Oh yeah, I feelamazing!” She giggles, then palms my cheeks, squishing my face together. “When did you get so handsome? Isn’t my man handsome?” She turns her face to Emma with a beaming smile but doesn’t let go of me.
Emma chuckles and answers sarcastically. “Oh, yes. Very handsome. But umm, babe? Did you take something?” She leans in toward Cecilia, inspecting her features.
