“So what are you saying? That you don’t want to take the risk?” I replied.

“No. If you really believe it will make her loyal then it’s worth it. But if you lose her…”

“When have I ever let you down?” I asked.

Uther sighed before finishing his drink. “Perhaps it would work, but I still believe my own plan has some merit too.”

“Of course you do brother.” I murmured getting up to go.

“I want her watched.” He said just as I reached the door.

“She will be.” I said.

“Not on the journey. I mean in this castle. At all times.”

I frowned turning to look at him. “I have two of my best warriors protecting her. Plus the guards on her door.”

“Not to protect her Fain.” He said fixing me with a pointed look.

“Then what…?”

“Whoever she fucks has the potential to become Fae. We need to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

I blinked. Was he saying what I thought he was saying?

“If she is a virgin then that’s how she remains. No one touches her. No one fucks her. I won’t have anyone else thinking they can beat me that way.”

“She’s not your slave.” I snarled. Sure she belonged to him by the laws of the land but that didn’t mean he owned every part of her, every aspect of her life.

“She’s my Fae. I won’t have anyone interfering with her.”

I narrowed my eyes. My anger flaring. “After what you just suggested to me…”

“I trust you Fain. I don’t trust anybody else.”

I shook my head. “It’s her life. If she decides to sleep with someone then it’s her decision. We have no right to interfere.” I stated ignoring the jealousy that seemed to swirl at the idea of her with someone, anyone else.

“Wrong.” Uther snapped. “I have every right. She can pass her power on, that means I do get a say. I won’t let that happen. I won’t let some upstart Lord think he can take what’s mine.”

“It’s her decision Uther. Not yours. You have no right to dictate that. To control that.”

He glowered. “Perhaps I’ll change the laws then. Perhaps I’ll have it stated so everyone knows what the situation is. That she is untouchable.”

“Do that and you’ll lose her.” I snarled. “Do that and she will never fight for us.”

“She made a bargain with me remember. She agreed to fight for us in exchange for her freedom.”

“As I see it it’s you breaking that deal. So far she’s done everything we have asked of her. Besides, as far as we know no one outside the Great Council knows about sharing Fae power. If you announce it you’ll put her more at risk.”

He tilted his head, pulling that look that told me he wasn’t convinced.

“Trust me brother.” I said calmly.

“I want to know.” He muttered. “Anyone that shows an interest in her. Anyone thatsheshows an interest in.”

“I don’t think she’s even thinking like that.”

“Nonsense. Sex and power make the world go round. She is pure power. And under that pretty guise of hers she is just as sex driven as the rest of us.”
