And then I felt it.

Her panic.

I frowned. Was I imagining it? Was it in my head?

I stalked back to my room and she was sat up, sheets around her, hair awry but still so breathtakingly beautiful.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

She blinked looking at me and bit her lip as she blushed with embarrassment.

“I…”

“You thought I’d left you?” I murmured. That I’d just had my fun and walked away.

Her face told me I was right.

“I wouldn’t do that.” I said.

She nodded.

“But I do have to go.” I stated. “The High Council is meeting.”

“What is that?”

“The men who were at the trial. My brother’s Council.”

She gritted her teeth, no doubt remembering as well as I did how inhumane they had been. How unsympathetic too.

“I should go.” She said getting up, searching for her clothes, picking up one boot and then the other.

I went to get her top from where I’d left it in the sitting room and as she turned to face me, I held it and she slipped her arms into the sleeves. “You look good in these.” I murmured. “Too good really.”

She smirked. “You said Indi’s ones didn’t fit properly.”

I ran my hands over her arse, now sadly covered too. “These fit better.”

She giggled. “I thought you had to go.”

“I do.” I sighed, reaching up, doing each clasp across her shoulder, her chest. When I was done I ran my hands back through her hair, admiring her for a moment as if it might be my last.

She stared up at me. Those mesmerising eyes of her sparkling more than ever.

Gods I could get lost in them, truly lost.

“Fain.”

“I know.” I murmured as if I was holding her up and not the other way around.

I took her hand leading her back out into the main room. She stepped towards the door and I pulled her back.

“Not that way.”

She frowned. “What?”

“There’s a reason I had you moved to the Peacock Rooms.” I said walking over to the huge bookcase taking up the entire side of one wall.

She narrowed her eyes. As if she already knew what was going to happen.
