I pulled a book and the entire middle section opened up, revealing the passageway beyond.

“Are you serious?” She said peering in. “You could access my rooms whenever you wanted? Just walk right in?”

I smirked. “Technically yes. But I wasn’t thinking like that. It was to protect you. If someone attacked, I knew I could get to you fast.”

“My hero.” She teased.

I laughed. “You can call me that if you want.”

“Not a chance.”

I laughed again, pulling her back into my arms. “What it also means is that it works both ways. You have access to my rooms too.”

“Is that an invitation?”

“Yes.” I said.

She blushed looking away, peering down to where the candles illuminated the passage beyond. “Who else knows about this?”

“Only Nela and Indi.”

“Of course they do.” She muttered. “But not Jelric?”

“No.” I said. Hoping she wouldn’t tell him. I didn’t want to know what his thoughts would be and I was certain he’d make them abundantly clear.

She nodded. “Okay. It stays between us.”

“Between us.” I repeated. Us, yeah I liked the sound of that.

I lowered my mouth, kissing her. “Come Little Fae, before my brother sends his army to come get me.”

We walked the distance in silence. I made a mental note to clean the space if it was going to get more use now. And I hoped it would.

When we reached the other end I showed her the handle, the same as my side. “Just pull it.” I said demonstrating, and the whole wall opened.

She looked in then gasped.

“My bedroom? It leads to my bedroom?”

I laughed as she crossed her arms, like I’d planned that on purpose, though in truth I couldn’t have done it better if I tried.

Nela stepped into view. Bowing to me and I inclined my head in return.

“The rules haven’t changed.” I said to Alice. “Day to day you still do exactly what Nela and Indi say.”

She let out a huff. “I’m not a child.”

“I know.” I replied. “But I have to know you’re safe.”

She nodded. “Fine. Go Prince Fain. The Council are waiting.”

Yeah they are. No doubt Uther will be pissed at how much time I’ve taken and I only hoped whatever had happened was not so urgent that I shouldn’t have dallied.

I walked in,bowed to them all and then crossed the room taking my usual seat beside my brother.

“You took your time.” He muttered.
